Never seen someone be this dominant defensively. Throughout the whole tournament teams have straight up not been able to get layups against us. Do you all know how demoralizing that is??
There’s been a lot of talk about the offense, about how great other players are, but I want to take the time to give Donovan Clingan his flowers as the most important player on this team and most impactful defensive player since Anthony Davis.
We have a lot of great analytics people on this board. Is there a way to find stats on what percentage opponents shoot at the rim when Clingan is in the game and the total numbers of layups made with him in?
It is incredibly hard for anyone to stand a chance against us when they simply cannot score at the rim. Even when our offense is horrible like it was in the first half, the fact that Clingan straight up holds them almost scoreless with him in the game makes it so it simply does not matter.
When it’s all said and done, despite the lack of accolades, a serious conversation is going to be had about how vital Clingan has been to one of the most dominant two years (if not the most dominant) in this programs history (and maybe cbb history).
