While Dabo Swinney is a football coach, he has real interesting insights on the transfer portal and NIL, which also relates to Basketball. Some say he’s out of date in his thinking, but there is a thread of long term success and common sense behind his insights. A good read. He echos some of @Fishy thoughts on the portal.

He only has a thread of one thing, being a complete hypocrite on everything. Useless moron.

He is probably one of the top 3 most successful college football coaches today, perhaps we should listen to him?

Well, he wants to blow up most other conferences and schools, and thinks he's underpaid... what could go wrong?

You have mischaracterized his answers, which by in large were very thoughtful. He emphasizes 98% of college players don’t make the NFL but they almost all think they should. Therefore, Dabo talks about the importance of education and how academic progress frees them up to play their sport with less anxiety. Very thoughtful.

My point exactly destruction of the model because a moron at ESPN is concerned about the tail and ratings while the dog that enabled a better life for mostly mid to lower income people dies , struck me as elitism run amok

If we are going to look to Dabo Sweeney for advice on anything, I'm outta here.

If you believe Dabo cares one iota about the education his players receive then perhaps you need a visit from the wallet inspector

"Everyone is going to have a good NIL program."

Good lord, what does that mean? Folks better get used to the fact that recruits, whether out of high school or in the transfer portal, are essentially free agents. Athletic programs with the access to the most cash....CASH....will attract the best talent. I don't see why it would be anything other than exactly that.

Agree, so much of it will be about the immediate cash, rather or not that’s the best long term investment strategy is another matter.

Yes, the kids are at risk under this system. They deserve some money, but this system will bring out the worst elements.

This could have been avoided with leadership and integrity from the NCAA and it's member institutions (the schools). Instead, all we saw was greed. Why should the kids have any loyalty to a program knowing that the vast majority of coaches will leave at a moments notice for a better gig? Now they don't have to sit out and the can put themselves out to bid.......just like the coaches.

Yep. The dude said a few years ago something along the lines of well if they start paying the players I need to find a new profession. How's that goin for him?

You should talk to our assistant coaches about recruiting in the portal. Again, players should have an ability earn money but as Doba says the current mess is not the answer.

It's better than what came before.
My concern is UConn Athletics has been mismanage to a $47m annual deficit, so whatever money the school can squeeze from sponsors goes to the school rather than player NIL’s with the exception of a select few. When these guys see Paige and Andre get their money and Sanogo perhaps wrapping up his deal - they get frustrated not getting a few crumbs their way. We desperately need a NIL plan and program for our players.
