12th bday this weekend. Thinking about Saturdays Mets/Braves game. Just interviewed Colin Cosell, Howard’s grandson, who offered to bring us up into the booth anytime we visit.

What to see at the park? -Jackie Rotunda

How to travel? Car train?

Thanks

The park is great. The food offerings were very good and more reasonable than Yankee stadium. Walk around. I had the unfortunate and ironic experience of parking right next to the marker where the old first base was - as a Red Sox fan that brought back terrible memories.

Back to point. I believe there is a brewery there.

a Queens native. Have been many times. train is not easy unless you go to GCT first, best to drive. Look for lot B reserved parking pass on the secondary market. be prepared for congestion arriving within an hour of the start and returning via the Whitestone Bridge.

Avid Mets fan here...

If you're coming from CT... drive. Its easy to get to and easy to park.
Citi Field is awesome. Can see the field from the entire concourse and the food selection for a ball park is ridiculous, tons of great options

Check out: Jackie Robinson rotunda, Tom Seaver statue outside, Mets Hall of Fame, view from Coca Cola corner, kids zone with wiffle ball field, a variety of clubs based on your ticket

....and dont forget the chop shops outside :)

Fortunately, the chop shops are all gone. They are clearing way for Sandy's casino plans.
As others have said, there isn't a bad seat in the stadium and the food choices are outstanding. Shake shack is always tough to beat but the lobster rolls are great too. Yes, take him to the kid's zone and just hang there since there is a great view of the game and lots to do/eat right there.

The old apple in the hat is outside the stadium, near the rotunda entrance, nice photo op.

If he's taking the train from CT (presumably) he'd have to go to GCT and can take the LIRR or 7 express subway, couldn't be easier. Not sure again where he's coming from but driving is probably faster and probably cheaper.

If a non-ballpark CT lobster roll is around $28, I'm scared to ask what a NY ballpark lobster roll goes for

It's a great ball park btw but like any newer modern ball park designed for you to spend money on the plethora of food options and craft beers. You could walk around the whole thing and be entertained and not watch a minute of the game

Citifield is a great fan experience, even if you're not a Mets fan.

Definitely check out the old Apple and the Tom Seaver statue. That will bring you to the entrance with the Jackie Robinson rotunda (which is pretty cool). The Mets Hall of Fame is off to your right near the rotunda. They have the Game 6 ball from 1986 in there among other decent older Mets items.

From there? I'd walk the concourse to get a view of the park, cross over the Shea Bridge and set up pregame shop in the CF concourse. Rated some of (if not the best) food in the big leagues and the way they designed the entire area is really well done. Great place to watch a game and hang with friends.

Note: The Pat LaFrieda steak sandwich is tops. Shake Shack is in CF. Tons of other good options - NY style pizza, arancini (fried stuffed rice balls), etc. I promise you will not go wrong on the food. Enjoy!

Oh, one other cool item about Citifield?

In the parking lot, there are markers where the mound, plate and bases were at Shea, including a notation at the spot the ball went under Buckner's legs in 1986. I brought a Sox fan there one game not telling him what we were seeing and he was not happy. He was even more unhappy when we met Mookie Wilson in the concourse later and I took a picture with him. My buddy said he thought he was seeing ghosts.

Not true. They also had pizza. I know this because we used to buy some to sit on during frigid April games.

Fair but they didn't have lobster rolls, sushi, empanada mama, nachos in a giant helmet, shake shack, blue smoke etc

I certainly have my romantic memories of Shea....but make no mistake, Shea was a dump.
The orange and blue corregated steel panels attached to cables were a nice touch.
