Seems like all three get the most open public criticism too. 🤷🏾♂️I have to disagree with you here. IMO, the original 3 starters, Christan, Liv and Anna all have a bad case of no confidence in themselves......especially in big games. It also comes out if they start missing shots. All 3 HAVE THE POTENTIAL to be excellent at their positions, but shy away when things don't go the way they want to.![]()
Can only call it like we see it! That's part of what this 'forum' is. The definition of forum is a place where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.Seems like all three get the most open public criticism too. 🤷🏾♂️
Not referring to public. I'm talking about the coach openly being critical. Can only call it like we see it! That's part of what this 'forum' is. The definition of forum is a place where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.
Maybe you're quoting the wrong post. I was replying to SCyankee about the 3.Not referring to public. I'm talking about the coach openly being critical.
As long as we want to. Why should you care? You’ve made your opinions on Williams known here and elsewhere. We. Get. It.How long are some UConn fans going to keep this up. They expected CW to fullfill their expectations of her for this being the third year now. She is an opportunistic player who takes advantage of what the defense gives her. She does not possess the foot speed or the shooting ability to take her to the level that people have based on her rating out of high school. She is a fairly good player who can be an asset to any team, but she is not a top level AA star.
She has always been a streak shooter who was smart and knew how to play within her abilities. In other words if she was not on she would not shoot. However, peoples expectations of her had often led her to do things she used to know better than. This led to games where she took and missed a lot of 3's. Let her just be what she is and take all those unrealistic expectations off her back.

NP. I do the same thing!Apologies
It is probably just me but time after time watching replays I see her take her eyes off the basket when she shoots, including some layups.I really thought after last year CW would be the star of the team..possible AA..instead she has regressed..I'll throw out last nights game because she was sick.but too many games she has reminded me of Charde Houston..immense talent who at times was unstoppable but only showed it periodically.Geno tried everything he could to get the most out of her but could never really do it..is it going to be the same with CW? Everyone says Geno helps players reach their full potential but sometimes I guess it just doesn't work..I feel Williams should be able to take over any game like she did last year at ND..instead her shot has been off this year for the most part and even has trouble making lay ups..it would sure be nice to se her up her game once the dance starts but I have my doubts
Are you including SC, who in your eyes we're not big enough or talented enough to beat? I would say in many people's eyes, including Dawn Staley. It was the Nike ball.I don't know why the starters are so immobile on offense, but Geno does not have better options on the bench. I have never believed Geno when he says he would rather lose a game to make a point. Geno wants to win every game. This team can consistently beat about 98 percent of their potential opponents, but this year there are a handful of teams that are just too big and too talented for us. Accept that. We are not entitled to win every year. Enjoy the development of this team and look forward to improvement next year.
And that is exactly what I am doing- expressing my perspective on posts on this site in respect to CW. My posts are not a c riticism of CW but rather the posters who consider her as a failure for not living up to their inflated expectations. I believe those expectations to have been unrealistic and have given my rationalization for them From my perspective she turned out to be the player I expected her to be. I see her spending her off season developing her self physically as admirable. She is doing what ever she can to improve herself. I just did not have the same perception of her ceiling as most others had.willtalk said:

Some have given up on Christyn and some haven’t.

I don't see any of my posts as being critical of CW but rather the posters who are disappointed in her.
In response to the poster that claimed that the things written on this site have not affected her increase in taking 3 pointers but it just being a case of the defense giving her those shots. Well I can remember in past years when she was criticized for not taking open looks. She was smart enough back then to know when she was feeling it and deferred when she was not. I wish other players would have the smarts to recongnize when they were hot and when they were not.
Her freshman year was her best shooting year - Freshman - FG 50%, 3FG 37%, Sophomore - FG 46%, 3FG 33%, Junior as of 2/10 FG 48%, 3FG 27%. Clearly her strength is layups and intermediate two pointers. Her three point shooting is trending down. For her senior year she may shoot around 20-23% for three pointers. Regarding her breakout game against Notre Dame. Geno told her just run the floor and the others would pass to her. I watched the highlights of this game. It contained 24 of CW's 28 points. She was 11 of 16 - 8 layups (5 in transition and 3 on dribble drives), one intermediate jumper, and 2 three pointers plus 4 free throws for 28 points. I think this is what she is. She should shoot 2-4 3PTers per game, selected pull up jumpers, and the balance transition and dribble drive layups. With Paige, Evina, and Nika's passing skills she should get plenty of layups off of cuts, backdoors, and pick and rolls.I really thought after last year CW would be the star of the team..possible AA..instead she has regressed..I'll throw out last nights game because she was sick.but too many games she has reminded me of Charde Houston..immense talent who at times was unstoppable but only showed it periodically.Geno tried everything he could to get the most out of her but could never really do it..is it going to be the same with CW? If my daughters came home with semester grades of B and C on a report card after scoring straight A in the prior semester, I would probably be just as critical as some people are being here because I know they are capable of better. Being critical is OK, being harsh probably not ok. Giving up is entirely unacceptable. The Board unfortunately loses its entertainment value and ceases to be a place where fans can be happy for their beloved Huskies as a result of the relentless "open public criticism" that some posters choose to spew.
I view the entitlement to negativity that they apparently hold dear as so unwarranted and unjustified when you consider the targets of their criticism - young female student athletes who are trying their hardest.
I ask them if they would be so harsh on their own daughters and grand daughters or even children of their own friends?

To a degree I agree with you but in the past and most recently I have read posts announcing with certainty that some players are "busts" and "useless". I contend that if one's life is so hard and its frustrations are so numerous that they try venting in other ways. Whether it be this Board or a like forum it is never OK to be so harsh in criticizing these young female players. In our own circles, we choose to avoid such negative people.Have we become so 'namby-pamby' or 'politically correct' that we can no longer state our views here? No one is literally attacking the girls (our team), we just say what's on our mind. We love this team! It's a forum where we can 'vent' our frustration with what we see. Maybe ALL coaches (et al Geno) should just say nice things to the players instead of motivating them (yes, by criticizing) to do better!
Clarification question @jaundicedeye not meant as criticism regarding this " it is never OK to be so harsh in criticizing these young female players". Am I to assume form this that you would find some of the criticism to be more acceptable if the same criticism were directed at the UCONN male players? To a degree I agree with you but in the past and most recently I have read posts announcing with the posters certainty that some players are "busts" and "useless". And believe me, my attitude has nothing to do with being politically correct (as I certainly am not) nor namby-pamby. If you were to meet me you would know that that is not who I am.
