Predicting next years starting line up is like predicting next years stock market..fools errand...will MW b back? Does she go pro? Does Anna come back or go pro? Does EW go pro? Too many variables....

You are really, really, really correct! I rooted for Charde, but she destroyed herself. IIRC Charde played the worst game in UConn's history in an elite-8 game, lots of minutes and zeroes across the board. Then she missed the final shot while wide-open 8ft. from the hoop (her defender had fallen down). It's crazy to liken CW or Mw to Charde. Charde's failure is in a class by itself.

Yes she is a lock to start lol just because she’s having a not so great year doesn’t mean Geno lost confidence in her. Maybe playing and traveling all summer is effecting her play. My biggest thing is with CW is her defense and lack of playing hard.

She needs to also work on her body and diet routine like Meg. It will help with her offense and defense. She has the skill set to to be an elite player, but she needs to put in the physical and mental work I believe to get to an elite level.
 
This isn't too complicated. She's kinda soft. shies from contact on both sides of the ball. She never pushes to drive through contact, so its easy to cut her off on drives and rarely gets to the FT line. On defense she kinda plays O'le defense, doesn't fight for position or grind out tough stops.

If she figures out toughness, she has all of the other attributes. Unfortunately toughness is the hardest trait to develop. You got it, or, you don't in many cases.
 
Maybe I am a little overly sensitive regarding Charde - I did live in San Diego when she was being recruited, and had a chance to meet her and her family on numerous occasions, even keeping in touch with her mom after her UCONN career.

Charde was NOT the #1 player in her class. In fact, she was not even in the top 5. IIRC she was #7-10 on various recruiting services. She was never meant to be an alpha dog like our # 1 recruits should be. Additionally, she was supposed to be our "star" during the dark years of recruiting when Geno wouldn't go after a kid till their junior year.

The year BEFORE Charde's freshman season was the class of Sherwood, Robinson and Wright. None of them made it to their 2nd year. She was also on the team with Strother, Turner, Crockett and Ash Valley. Classes after her included Montgomery, Greene, Tahirah Williams, Cassie Kerns, and the others in her class were Swanier and Mel Thomas.

Charde's offensive game was indeed limited. She never got it to the next level. But in spite of enduring withering criticism from Geno, to her credit, she never bailed on her team and transferred. She stuck it out for 4 years and did the best she could.

If you want to compare Williams to past UCONN players, it's more fair to compare her to kids who were rated #1 coming in. In the 7-10 range, Charde's comparisons should be to Bria Hartley, Samarie Walker, Kiah Stokes (yeah she was 42 per HG, but top 10 per everyone else), Sadie Edwards, and Olivia. I think she compares favorably to most of those kids for what she accomplished at UCONN compared to what they did.

Wow why are you going off one big game she had last year. What about this year. And I’m tired of Huskies fans coming down on Charde, yes she could of played better at times but people forgetting or don’t know Charde average 11 points as a freshman 10.0 as a sophomore and 13.0 as a junior while all shooting over 50 ppg career averaged of 5.0 rpg. And as a senior her numbers dipped down because of how special Maya Moore is.

Against ND, CW was an unknown who cherry-picked her way to 28 points thanks to the largesse of her teammates .. notice that it didn't happen again, eh?

On that lineup, it might be OK for offense but that team will be very much like this year's on D. Zero interior defense other than ONO. Edwards at some point may help some but asking ONO to handle two posts against good teams is too much. And I doubt Gabriel will be any factor at all. On ONO, I've supported and really like this kid. But I have no idea how she could be around BB year round and still hasn't learned how to turn both ways and go up and extend for shots at 6-5. For a kid as athletic as she is, it's not that hard but she needs someone who's played at a high level like Lobo or Stewart or a good skills coach to work with her as soon as possible.

Ummm, she has Chris Dailey who is an excellent skills coach for the bigs. Two of her prize students are the aforementioned Lobo and Stewart.

Browns: Am with you on this. Can probably count her truly impressive games on one hand at the midpoint in her career. Not good for a #1 recruit. Distractions? Am hoping for more consistency, as her best is pretty damn good, just quite rare.
 
Before crowning any incoming players I would remind you that both Christyn and Megal came in as top or near top rated players in their high school class. The transition from high school to college is difficult enough for seventeen or eighteen year old young ladies. Add to the normal adjustments the expectations of being a member of the Uconn Wonen's team. Normal freshmen do not have to deal with the "paparazzi", a dress code, practice time, travel time, and the almost silent demand that they should be either near or on the Dean's List. You have to be incredibly disciplined to subject yourself to this type of environment. Fortunately, the vast majority of Geno's recruits sooner or later are able to make the adjustment, it's just that some do it faster than others.
 
It had been reported that CW had been dealing with the flu before the Oregon game. ...Geno seemed to be happy with her effort and doing other things (besides scoring) when her shot wasn't falling. I think she shows a lot of heart on the court and love watching her play.

Christyn's three point shot and free throws could be better but she's shooting 54% from inside the arc, the highest two point percentage among starters. I'm confident her three point and free throw shooting will improve because she has a sweet stroke. It might not happen this year but definitely by next season. She has the tools to be unstoppable.
 
CW hasnt lived up to the hype as the overall #1 recruit so far. She was very confident, but hasnt backed up her words. Too soft & inefficient. She can be great in certain games but only if her outside shots go on. I thought she would develop into a more dynamic scorer - hasnt happened yet.
 
She was one of the better players during the NCAA Tournament last season. As far as not being tough, she finishes with contact on layups as well as anyone else on the team, just misses too many uncontested ones. She seems to rush them.

One game does not represents a change in team style or court culture. I am very anxious to see how the team plays tonight, if Memphis was real or just a one game phenomenon.
 
Clearly, we have a number of old farts with failing memories on the BY who appear to have forgotten just how good Christyn was down the stretch during the Big Dance last season. Donalddoowop has it right. With Lou hobbled by an injury, UConn needed someone else to step up.

During all 5 Tournament games, Christyn scored in double figures, shooting over 50% for the tournament. In addition to being UConn’s second leading scorer behind Pheesa, Christyn also was an unexpected factor on the boards as the 3rd leading rebounder for the Huskies.

While I agree that Christyn has been inconsistent at times this season, for a number of reasons, she is the least of our worries as UConn prepares for a run in March. There will certainly be intense battles for the pg and wing spots next season, as well as tremendous competition for PT by 10-12 players. Anyone who wants to believe that Christyn will not be in the starting lineup next season is sorely mistaken.
 
I keep reading, but more like turning around these posts about CW in my head, trying to figure out what about her that knaws at posters-- at least a few. 'She doesn't like contact', but she is really the player on the team, says me, that uses her body a lot. She rebounds against the bigs and steps outside to shoot when the offense breaks down. And, last year she played the 2nd guard spot, which is probably more fitting and where she will play at the next level. So, one might say she is playing out of position and is learning. It can't be all that easy to play in the paint and against the taller, skilled and more experienced players. I of course would like to see her defense improves much much more. And like others I had questions about the extensive games and travelling this past summer. Yes, I understand how imp USA bb is to players-- but? I really don't think there is much to come after here- not her game, and I am the least knowledgeable poster here. I might be the only one here who remembers Stewart's first year or half year and how physically tough it were. Some called for benching her and others worried about the long term psych consequences for what opponents were doing to her. High school to college, sg to forward can be brutal, excepts for for fans with a ballot to fill out or just placing bets.

Getting away from the Big Three narrative and including more teammates in the offense has, IMO, improved the team a significant amount. On defense too!
 
I agree with Eric LA about Charde. She was terribly unhappy here. I don’t have a clue as to why she didn’t transfer. I remember one game against North Carolina which we were being out played badly. The players on the bench practically beg Charde to play
She hiked up her shorts and went to town. I think we won the game but not sure. Do not recall the year but before Mya etc joined the team. She always seemed so
sad. My heart went out to her, although I can understand why she frustrated Geno.
