I think this is pure nonsense.
I heard you in the chat, I heard you a few times in post, and its tiresome. I get it, and i don't care. I like AG, I'm happy for him, I'm allowed to express that, get over it. Maybe I'm just scrappy 3.0? Leave me alone, put me on ignore, whatever floats your boat. Agree to disagree. Go shake a stick at something else.

What about debate? You like the guy, that's fine. Why does he "deserve" to play hero ball?

Team chemistry is a very underrated component in sports. You tend to play harder, work harder, play more unselfishly when you genuinely care about the other guys you’re playing with.

I loved seeing Gaffney cheerleading on the bench. He seems like a great kid.

I think the point was that Alterique deserves to enjoy some good luck after all he's been through; and for those of us who really like him, it was nice to see him have the hot hand and ride it. It wasn't like we were in danger of losing.

But on the other hand, I understand that we don't want him falling back into bad habits, so I'm also fine if Hurley reminded him about that, too.

"Hero Ball" alert.
If we'd retire the term, we'd all benefit. Let the coach extend & withdraw the leash. SO much of what gets labeled HB is a combination of bad decision-making, a real or perceived sense of desperation & need, and, yes, sometimes trying to do too much "heroically."

Can we start censoring hero ball posts? It’s much more offensive to me than hardcore pornography

I'm not in favor of unilateral disarmament. It's useful shorthand for the type of play that needs to go before we can move forward. The term will die a natural death once the play on the floor adjusts.

...I said his style of play, decisions with the ball and such did not change. The only thing that changed was the ball ending in the basket, or getting fouled while driving...
Actually, he wasn't driving all the way to (and sometimes beyond) the backboard and running out of real estate, which has been a big problem with his drives he last several games.

"Hero ball" is and always has been a dumb term, mainly because it's the default term for aging supposed basketball purists who think that any shot not taken off of a pass is a bad shot.

The best example of "hero ball" in a UConn game this year? Naji Marshall from Xavier.

I know we both want smart play, and it'll eventually be there (or not).

I'll take your vigilance as helpful to the ambition but note that, IIRC, CV twice & AG once got to the line and converted on first half drives that seemed questionable; that AG missed a wide open 3 that was probably the kind best taken to keep a defense honest; and that in the second half AG had the twisting layup on the left side of the basket & the stepback that both worked and reminded us of guards from the past decade who converted more frequently.

Were all of these attempts "hero ball?"Quite possibly yes, if DH didn't call the timeout at 9-18,make the substitutions, have a bench, and new players who responded, but he did.

I'll take yesterday's flashier moves more as "swagger," mostly because points were scored, and because there was noticeable second half jump in my personal/historical Big 3: made free throws, defensive stops, and made free throws.

For now, I'll trust, you verify. We're on the same team.

I don't want to debate. That's why I haven't responded to you. The kid hasn't had the chance to do that since he was a 5 star in HS. Let him have one 2 min moment without tearing his head off. Bazz, Walker even Boat took all the shots in 2 min runs before. Its not the end of the world. He also doesn't do it all the time and did it once when he was hot. Big deal. He scored 20 pts, he didn't lose the game. I even said in the other thread I would've liked him to have passed it more in that stretch, and you still bemoaned. Just because you don't want him scoring because you want the young'uns to take over sooner, doesn't mean you have to be ad-nauseum about it. Some of us want to enjoy the seniors this season, Ollie players or not.

You're trying to make a stupid debate arguing against a Uconn player scoring pts in a UConn win with someone who loves assists and the drive and dish play more than anything else. Let it go.

Now I will go back to my safe space in the cesspool where people are supposed to be on different sides.

i dont get why Carlton just disappears in games, he was real active against Indiana but the last couple against lesser competition, he's left a lot to be desired.
[/QUOTE]
Carlton only played 14 minutes.
It sounds like he was either sick or UNH ‘s lack of size allowed Whaley extended play.
4 boards in 14minutes sounds like it was the latter.
He was chasing a 6’5” guy out at the perimeter and that. couldn’t be much fun for a guy 265lbs,

It's hero ball when we're behind or losing ground. It's swagger when we're rolling.

It’s wasted effort or production (efficient effort). WE vs EE.

The kid was having a little fun and riding his hot streak channeling Walker/Bazz. I'm ok with that, he deserves it. But DH was right to curtail it and settle him down.
FWIW, I just watched the TV replay of the game and have a better understanding of your POV. I'm not writing anything off. I think we can do some AAC damage.

He was doing absolutely nothing to get open. Teammates were looking for him but he was completely disinterested in getting the ball. Whaley took advantage and played probably his best game of his career
