Ultimately it comes down to schools on the 'outside' needing to have an increased risk tolerance, being less selective, etc.9 million is more than every CBB teams total budget. Kansas and Arkansas aren’t even that high. This just seems absurd to spend that on a single player
For a non-elite school to attract elite talent they have to take more chances and capitalize in certain aspects.
Hiring their high school coach, overpaying with NIL money, recruiting their teammate, ignoring injury/academic/behavioral issues, ignoring repeated transferring, etc.
