Dominated with threes (13 vs 4), rebounds (42 vs 25) and assists (25 vs 18). But, the 3 domination was huge. We shot 48% from 3PT and Xavier 22%. Our win by 23 included a 29 point edge from the 3 line.

Mullins, Karaban and Ball combined for 30 points from 3, which really stretched the defense.

While we got 10 assists from the point guard position given the shooting we have at times we need even greater awareness who are shooters are. When Mullins, Ball and Karaban are on, are PG’s don’t need to take deep shots and focus on ball distribution and layups.

While we won by 23 we got a lead early and did not expand it as perhaps as much as we could. I thought Hurley had a good post game observation that Reed needs to get deeper position in the post.

A red flag is Reibe going 1-3 from FT. I love his game but Eric needs to do better than 50% from the foul line. A center is going to get fouled late in the game going to the basket. Another concern is turnovers. We had 14 tonight despite not a lot of pressure on the ball. Guys just had some sloppy moments in an otherwise well played game.

Of course, if I did not think we could be really good this year, I would not worry so much in a 23 point win. But, if we clean up some things we could be amazing.

Yes, room for improvement toward a high ceiling. Lots to work with when film gets reviewed.

Xavier got trucked in a Derrick Henry-like fashion. Our squad looked like a February team, not a late December edition. The assists and ball movement are what really impressed me. I hope and expect Pitino will build a good program. Xavier has always reminded me of WVU in that they were always scrappy overachievers. I wish them well.

Mullins coming up to speed with our offense, getting more looks, and rattling the rims. His impact is growing by the game, and his play last night looked like a player who could be Freshman of the Year and a 1rst round pick. Our whole offense looked much better last night, lots of open looks generated by team movement, looking more like we did in our 2 championship years. Granted that Xavier's defense wasn't the best, but still it was fun to watch. Looking for more from our interior/post play and the 5 spot.

Prankster sez....

We really missed Ross yesterday. It showed.

His play, like Stewart's, is a real challenge for Xavier.
