Chief’s Briefs - UMass Lowell Edition

C

Chief00

We got off to a good start, making the extra pass and getting good looks but then we fell into over penetration, 1on 1 play and careless turnovers. We also made silly fouls on defense. Our lead was cut from 23 to 10. Adams picking up his 3rd foul had something to do with it but not the whole story. Adams played well on offense - inconsistent on defensive effort.

The good theme was we got off to a good start - remember last year? Christian Vital also demonstrated he can get better shots in the flow of the game rather than through 1 on 1 play.

I thought Gilbert played well, he did not force things, facilitated and made some shots. His defense was good.

Smith played poorly, tried to do too much and did not pull it off. Rivera and Noel looked good for UMass Lowell.

Chief was hoping to see more explosion with Josh this year around the basket. In this game he has several inches on his defender but still goes up weak too often, he did make a few good moves but needs consistency. Yakwe has more explosion but less skill on his move and shot. No doubt about it, we need Bigs.

For those who see Sid as the savior, Chief thinks you need to talk to Danny Hurley.

Our defense had too many lapses later in the shot clock, especially on the perimeter.
Probably good we got AZ coming up - we need to measure ourselves again against better competition. The Bigs need to step up. Cobb in particular.

Chief does have a concern with all this 4 guard stuff since we will need to play at least two Bigs at a time against major schools.

Too many empty seats at Gampel - how about banning exams, paper due dates and quizzes the day after a Gampel night game?

Leaving Gampel a minute early, hence sending now.

Loved the quick start, not so much the lull as you mentioned but thankfully our huskies came out blazing in the second half, 8-2 to start the second.

Wilson clearly rusty on the missed putback dunk and fell down after, Hurley shakes his head. Gilbert had some awesome drives, few deep threes looking to being shaking off the remaining rust quickly.

Hurley was coaching till the very end, loved it and very candid and honest in the post game saying they still need to get better. He was happy with the fast offense but knows they need to improve D FOR Sunday and beyond.

BTW when williams hit that second FT at 2:28 to make it 91-69 was anyone else sorta hoping the two teams would play to a 0-0 standstill to end the game? Ahah, past the 91 point barrier!

6-1 going into zona, now things get serious!

Nice game throughout save for a six minute stretch in first half.

Good to see UConn obliterating teams that should be obliterated.

Sid misses a put back dunk and Polley follows with a nice driving layup and then a catch, shoot, foul from the baseline. Interesting contrast in performance.

Really like that Vital, Adams and Gilbert have shown ability to make three's from 2-3 steps behind line. Result is defense is forced to guard much further away which opens up more lanes and freedom to drive.

Definitely confused how open contemplation of pulling a pud made it in to this thread in under ten posts.

The fact these get posted faster and faster after each game ends tells me you have no idea what your even saying and probably start typing up your trash at half time. Who is encouraging this advanced case of psychosis? This man needs help please stop feeding him with sarcastic replies, he doesn’t recognize nuance.

At least wait until the “Rubbing one out with A-Dubb Thread”
Rubba a dub dub two hands on a chub.
You can fit two hands on yours? Lucky.

It sounded like someone gets "awarded" the opportunity to rub one out together with ADub. Kinda strange to me and I'm sorta weirded out at trying to think through the logistics of how that award is handed out. Especially if eye contact is made at any point of the award presentation.

If we play like this Sunday it wont be good.Hurley’s rotation is way too long and that’s to be expected this early but I hope he pares down against Az.

Lower attendance is caused by the schedule. An AAC schedule will require no UMass Lowell type opponents to keep fans interested. One strong(ish) team after another needs to be coming to town these days. The fans just aren’t buying the weak opponents when they know the AAC will provide several duds too.
