And he missed two many shots and had too many turnovers. He played a lot like a Freshman tonight. When Clingan was in it seemed it was for a minute or two.
I have no rationale explanation other than his 4 fouls tonight. When Clingan was in it seemed it was for a minute or two.
Has trouble handling the ball, walks under the hoop with defenders. This is All-American material. Honestly I there are other big men in the Big East that are more impressive.Sanogo's missed bunny instead of a dunk sums up our last 6 games.
If the alternative is to dribble and swing the ball around the perimeter for 30 seconds before trying to force feed Sanogo through two defenders, we might as well just give Hawkins the ball and let him chuck a bad shotThe thing that the team cannot control is the luxury of relying on their best players of Jackson, Hawkins and Sanogo to stop the momentum of the opponent and to make the critical plays that have to be made when the games tighten up and at crunch time.
This has been exposed in all of their losses. The opponents best players are stepping up and making plays. Our best players have lacked the ability to consistently execute the offense and defense when needed.
All of the remaining options around different line ups, defensive strategies and forcing the officials to call more fouls is secondary and more peripheral.
Our best players have to make plays and be trusted to execute at a high level. This is not happening and they will need to learn. Unfortunately this learning process cannot be rushed and has to occur naturally. Hawkins is not there yet. Jackson is in a new role still learning. Sanogo has never really demonstrated the ability to close out competitive games consistently. It starts and ends with these 3 guys. There is no other way I can put it. They were punched in the mouth several times in the second half and failed to respond adequately on the road. The Big East smells blood. We are still waiting for our Huskies to respond.
Already am. My new season prediction is 19-12 before the BET.
You have to think about where the leadership on the team, the guys on the floor is going to come from. It has to be Hawkins, Jackson and Sanogo. There is no one else on the roster that this can come from. Clingan is one our best players however is still learning and not in a position to carry a team. When you look at a team like Alabama they have Miller and he's a freshman. We have no one like that on our team. The floor leadership is missing in these tight games from Sanogo, Jackson and Hawkins. These are the guys the team needs to rely on for consistent execution on offense and defense. The rest of the team are role players. It falls apart against the better teams when absent. The blueprint is out on our Huskies and our big dogs are not showing much heart or enough heart right now. I don't think it's necessarily a coaching thing. The light has to come on for the leaders on the team and the rest will take care of itself. When this happens I think the response will be a beautiful one. This losing streak however is painful.Maybe I am answering your point - why isn’t Clingan included in our best players? Well, he’s not in our starting line/up either as he should be!
Brando made a comment in the second half that tom had said he wanted to be the one sitting and Luke the one standing, or something to that effect.Nothing against Luke but why is he effectively the head coach in practice tonight with Tom there?
Clinigan would of got that reboundHow do you not have Sanogo and Clinigan out there on the last play
I appreciate his effort and toughness. He is zero threat with the ballDiarra wasn't good at all tonight.
The direction this team is heading, I believe Chiefs Briefs are going to be really brief. We have these rotations and regardless of how a player plays we stick to them. That has got to change. It is also tough to beat teams when you turn the ball over much more than your opponent. Turnover tonight 18 for UConn and 9 for Hall.
A fellow poster displayed some data that showed Sanogo gets fouled 1 of 20 attempts in the paint. That is outrageous and continued tonight.
True he could use some better sell techniques but he often gets fouled and no whistle by the Big East officials, who have been a disaster this season under a very weak commissioner. When Sanogo misses a post shot, there is no one in the zip code to rebound without a Double Big.
First half, 3 foul shots for UConn and 10 for Setan Hall. With 7 minutes left in the game 8 foul shots for UConn and 18 for Hall. For the game short end of 14 to 25.
Hawkins, Sanogo, Clingan, Jackson and Karaban are our 5 best players and it is a no brainer they should be our starting line-up. Time is running out for our coaching staff to recognize this. How much more evidence do they need that the current approach is not working?
Having said that, I liked Diarra game tonight. He can break the defense down off the dribble, but needs to improve his FT %.
But where did our ball movement go? And there’s a big price to pay without having a double big for the rebound at the end,
9 in 2nd half alone.I counted at least 8. Despicable 2nd half. We implode at halftime every single game for the last 6 games.
We still have time to turn the ship around but double big needs to start next game and in the starting lineup.
Nothing against Luke but why is he effectively the head coach in practice tonight with Tom there?
At least one of which was a dime to Sanogo that he fumbled.I recall Jackson turn the ball over on passes three times..
He kept picking up cheap fouls. When Clingan was in it seemed it was for a minute or two.

We were not up 17 late in 2nd half. It was an implosion but that lead was in the first half.up 17 points late in 2nd. period stop!
Totally agree Chief! If I heard Tim Brando right, it sounds as if this was Tom’s decision. He thought it was a great opportunity for Luke to get some head coaching experience. In a normal situation. Tom would’ve been right. However, with us losing so much recently and with a golden opportunity to get things going in the right direction again, tonight was not the time to put someone’s personal experience ahead of the team’s best interest.Nothing against Luke but why is he effectively the head coach in practice tonight with Tom there?
He fumbled it because AJ sent him a fast ball from like 6 or 7 feet. AS does not have the hands to handle such a pass.At least one of which was a dime to Sanogo that he fumbled.
He has zero hops to dunk the ball...we have seen it over and over. Sadly DC misses a good number of layups off the glass when he should be dunking the ball near to every time he shoots when down low. That last Sanogo miss. What the frick?
