Chief’s Briefs/ Creighton Edition

Neal drove by everyone on UConn frequently and effortlessly many times, hence the 24 points. And when he didn't, he would juke someone and hit the 3. Perhaps it would have helped to have a shot blocker with his buttocks firmly planted under the rim rather than 30 feet from the basket high-hedging a 6 ft tall guard who was having an off game.
Bingo

The problem is the Big East refs call contact by us but not the same type of contact by our opponent. So we can talk big, but the players have to deal with that reality.
So you’re saying the refs don’t like us?

Great insights. I wish other posters would have the players’ backs more. This bias, unethical and unprofessional officiating makes it very tough on our players, who deserve better. The official feel the anti Hurley Maui PR has inoculated them from the need for being fair despite their hatred of Hurley.

The bottom line is UConn doesn’t have a 15 point handicap this year against good teams - so a 5-15 foul shot disadvantage at home really hurts. As many flaws that we have this season our loses tend to be when our opponents take at least twice as many foul shots, often 3x’s.
Many here need a wake up call.
Would you all say when we get to the tournament the officiating evens out?

You do realize we get outshot at the FT line every single game, right? It’s not the refs, it’s a product of the roster/scheme.
We average 17.6 FTAs per game. That gets us 260th place in D1.

FTR, Creighton averages 15.7. They got 15 yesterday.

There are 14 P4/5 teams who shoot fewer FTs on average than we do. Four of those are in the BE (Marquette 16.6, Nova 15.8, Creighton 15.7, G'town 15.5)

Just to fact check your claim, I checked the box scores. Here you go:

Opp/OppFTAs/UConnFTAs
v X: 21-21
@ Butler: 28-16
@ DePaul: 28-10
v Prov: 23-32
@ Nova: 13-4
@ G'town: 23-10
v Creigh: 15-5

So in the 7 BE games to date, opponents average 21.6 FTAs to our 14. On the road, it's 23-10. At home, it's 19.6-19.3. So I don't know if that proves much else than refs appear to favor the home squad when calling fouls.

I can't imagine what Kansas fans think. They take 13.1 FTs on average. Fifth worst in D1. Does the B12 hate them?

Pretty nice work, except your conclusion. If teams are favored at home as your data suggests, then our data is well out outside normal deviation because we should be getting at least 21.6 to an opponent’s 14, not roughly parity.

Thus the use of "appear".

Can karaban dunk? Certainly would like to see that on occasion
I like Karaban a lot but he's become very predictable on settling for the 3. Mix it up a little, drive first. The entire offense appears slow moving.

Exactly, big refs don’t like danny and his antics
Is it that or am I to believe that Creighton is an outstanding defensive team that only fouled 6 times until the last minute of the game? Do we not run enough offense to get fouled?

This team needs the starting 5 as well as the next 3-4 to be a gamers. Players that are on top of the game on both sides of the ball. Not working harder but smarter and when that happens the game gets easy (last years team had the gamers). Wouldn't be bad if a couple were junkyard dogs!
