We rebounded well against cupcakes. But at critical moments against good opponents not so good. Toughness is not just physical but mental toughness also. Physical toughness doesn’t have to lead to fouling. Look at our 2 last teams. Toughness in basketball is about holding position. Blocking out. Staying in front of your man.
When I have time I will check the boxscores but I believe I will find we out rebounded and out assist our elite opponents.
The games we have lost (except Dayton)have been by a few points yet we gave up 12-18 more foul shot attempts. Would only make sense we led in rebounds and assists to do that and from doing the Briefs I remember that in many elite opponent games.

I usually don't jump I to Chief's Briefs, but today I will. I think most of our fouls were warranted.

I do believe Butler got away with a lot of clutch and grab off the ball, especially on Ball. Those should have been called to allow player movement. Those are legit fouls that weren't being called. Some ref units are calling those, but not the crew last night.

Hurley should tone down his antics and just work the refs on one or two things to get some calls.

I don't see any ref conspiracy. I see a lot of bad D and fouling. Earlier in the season Johnson seemed to be getting 1 to 2 bad calls against him, but lately the ones called on him and his teammates look legit. Maybe we're not getting enough calls on our offensive end, but I don't think we hunt contact enough or use up fakes to draw fouls.
Check out Pat Driscoll’s games. I present data and you call them conspiracies based on your feelings.

I don't know who you are talking to. I never said anything about conspiracy theories. Just sharing my observations. You don't just present data. You present your views as if they are irrefutable, which they're not.

Perhaps he's Chief of the Slapaho tribe and he thinks of you as one of his hoes.

I don't recall where Chief00 ever said that UConn doesn't commit fouls.
I know that UConn, as a team, commits many fouls and they are called, rarely overlooked.
The issue I have with the officiating is that the refs definitely allow opponents to do what they just had called as a foul on UConn.
One can't help but think that the refs in general have a grudge w/DH and if DH makes a comment like that to a ref - I can't blame them to a much lesser degree. Instead of hurting DH alone, it hurts the team and the players.
Maybe DH should sit with the head of NCAA officials for an air cleaning?
Agree.

Please see 4th paragraph of your post 46 in this thread where you reference ”ref conspiracies”.

Gezz! I wrote "I don't see any ref conspiracy." Many want to blame all the foul disparity on the Refs out to get UConn and Hurley. So don't accuse me of believing such, which you seem to be advocating. Own your own and stop projecting it on others.

I'm not happy with some of the calls and no calls. The officiating, especially all the off the ball clutching, bumping and grabbing our cutters need to called. With that said, most of UConn's fouls are the result of our D getting blown up via dribble penetration or not securing defensive rebounds. It's one of the reasons for the assist differential, where teams are scoring most of their points driving it right to the basket, letting players back us down deep into the paint or via all the foul shots they get from all our fouling.

I'm going to go back to only reading the official post game thread and not bother read your "I'm the expert around here" one. Why do you feel you need to have your own? Is the one that Tom sets up not good enough for you. You seem to believe you deserve special attention. Imagine if we all start our own post game thread. Wouldn't that be special.

Yea I mean that's part of the game and always has been. I complain about the lack of 3 second calls but until they make freedom of movement a point of emphasis, the refs just aren't going to call the off ball holds and hand fighting. We have to be stronger and fight through that stuff if we want to run this intricate offense.

Jordan Hawkins wasn't physically strong but he knew how to sprint into screens at the right angle to get maximum separation in a way that Solo just isn't able to do right now. And not to mention, Donovan was one of the best screeners we've ever had, right up there with Jake Voskuhl. Adama was also up there given that he's an absolute tank of a human.

Those details matter, and it's partly a personnel issue and partly an execution issue. But to blame the refs is to turn a blind eye on how the game has always been called, especially in the rough and tumble Big East.
Here are the screwups I see every game by Big East officials .. and it’s just the Big East. outside of Big East there is the normal home cooking advantage which is usually just giving some 50/50 calls to home team .. I’m ok with that. What happens in Big East is something completely different it’s so bad it has to be intentional.

1. UConn players are getting wrapped up with two hands and held and no foul.
2. UConn players are grabbed by the wrist and held and no foul.
3. Samson Johnson is ever so slightly moving on a screen and called for offensive foul atleast once a game sometimes twice. How many moving screens have been called against UConn Big East opponents all year, maybe 1 or two?
4. Opponents just drive out of control they create contact and throw up the ball and don’t even get it to the rim and refs call a foul every time. When Diarra does the exact same thing … drive initiate the contact and throw ball up, it’s a no call every time any we say what’s wrong with Diarra, why can’t he do what other teams PG does at end of shot clock.
5. Opponents on iso moves clear space with forearm to get room for shot repeatedly and nothing called. Telefort did this obviously and repeatedly in last game.
6. On offensive rebound putback attempts of UConn opponent misses 3 times in a row an automatic foul is called on UConn an opponent gets FTs. Never called the same way when UConn does same thing on offensive rebounds. When there are multiple offensive rebounds in a row in a crowd there is always a lot of contact. Refs need to call that same way on both ends of court.
7. When center gets rebound and opposing team tries to grab at ball the get rebound they missed .. if it’s UConn grabbing it’s a foul if it’s the other team … they let it go and becomes jump ball. Whenever someone grabs at the ball like that they always get some ball and some arm. Please call that consistently a foul or allow it.

We lead our opponents in rebounds 657 to 564 (by 93), our opponents lead us 432 to 330 (by 102) in foul shot attempts. Again, the numbers tell the story. I am trying to focus on the data not emotions and I try to be consistent win or lose.

Toughness is always great unless it leads to dumb fouls - but it’s also an emotion, which is needed but there’s limits to it if we don’t focus on the numbers too. Butler was grabbing multiple times on each of our possessions and we shot in the paint - yet this huge foul shot disconnect impacted the strategy of the game late in the game once again.

Many here need to believe the numbers, I am just a messenger of them. I know this bias is not suppose to consistently happen but it is.

An uninformed SI writer has already written an article last night about how Hurley was rude to the official when the real story should be how the officials personal feelings about Hurley makes them do their job in an unprofessional manner and they should be investigated as a result.

Last night Pat Driscoll’s crew once again delivered a 2 to 1 foul shot advantage for our opponent.
Didn't you use to speak in the 3rd person?

What happened to that?
