Mullins (16), Karaban (15) an Demary (14) carried us today. A 12 point win, which was really 20 before the bench was emptied. Mullins led us in points and rebounds (7) and all 5 starters shot over 50% FG.
We had a modest lead in rebounds (+5) and assists (+4) but we were dominate.
We led from 3pt 40%to 31% and FT 84% to 71%. Games always go better shooting foul shots over 80%.
Demery is playing consistently well, which is a huge plus for the team.
While it may not be reflected in the statistics we have the beginning of an inside out game, which if Reed and Mullins continue their improvement, could become pretty amazing.
We are where we want to be and consistent improvement is what we must be focused on. We will need to incorporate more plays for Mullins in our offense since he’s such a special talent but we need to do that without taking other guys off their game. The inside out approach should make everyone better.
Our defense has been pretty good but development opportunities to improve our inbounds plays and full courts fast break mindset.

Ross (13 minutes) and Smith (13 minutes), combined for 6 points. Granted they are in for defense and ball handling (Smith) but now that we may have a healthy Mullins (ankle permitting), Hurley will need to balance points from Ball and Mullins against this defense in allocating minutes.

Whenever Reed receives the ball away from the paint and tries to penetrate it becomes a disaster.
Because he tries to dribble to the hoop. You woukd think he would have learned by now to go straight up or pass it back out.

He’s learning, it’s a process that got detoured by injury. Never inestimate how conforting it is to have Reed under the basket in a defensive rebound opportunity. His big body, reach, strength and hands make a big difference.

If he is single covered, backing down a defender to the hoop is fine. The problem is when he turns into the double team. It's a feel thing. But when in doubt, pass it out.

Inside out is critical. If Reed shows the same learning/improvement curve this year, watch the heck out!
it was an issue for a while last season, perhaps he forgot what was taught? UConn cannot afford the black hole scenario again from it's big.

Yes, quickly identifying a double team is key. Then knowing where their vulnerability is as a result. The first pass doesn’t always have to be to that vulnerability. Sometimes the second pass gets the best shot.
