Chief’s Brief - Creighton Edition

I’m legit baffled you think that Reibe could guard any of the 4s on those teams especially outside the paint. All of whom are first round picks in part bc of their mobility. Reibe struggled with Creightons backup center. So I mean. Just bc they all weigh the same does not equate to athleticism and mobility.
This convo is moot. Ain’t happening, pointless.

You need to move on from what’s not working, if you don’t have an awareness of that, how can you analyze a future hypothetical?

Chief… I’m fully aware our current defensive philosophy is not working hence why I proposed “solutions.” But doing double bigs wouldn’t work either. Why not just start Koroma then and bench AK? More athleticism. It’s just as dumb an idea a thinking our 7-1 freshmen center can guard a mobile big at the theee point line when he can’t guard anyone near the hoop either.

Maybe he thinks he can get more weakside blocks. LOL! Yeah the double bigs is definitely not the answer when we need more athleticism on the court for defense and not less. Now that you mention Koroma I wouldn't mind seeing what he can do in limited minutes at the 4 especially with Karaban hurt. I'm sure he will give us more than Stewart is presently giving us.

If it doesn’t happen, we will have an early exit.
Nonsense! You are borderline trolling now.

I’ll say it again, we have won 2 national championships with a stretch 4 in Alex Karaban.

We haven’t implemented a 2 big lineup since Jim Calhoun and we have been just fine.

I’ll pick your brain a bit here for fun: what would be our starting 5 in the two big lineup?

We could put any 4 we wanted next to Clingan and it would have worked.

When May used it last year with Wolf, there was a ton of high low action given Wolf could see over defense. Not sure Tarris would be savvy enough to work that.

It works with the right players. Guys with mobility, perimeter skills, or high IQ. So far in this thread we’ve either implied or name dropped Wolf (1st rd pick), Boozer (soon to be lottery pick), Morez Johnson (mock #26), Koa Peat (mock #13), and Alex Condon (mock #42).

Reibe is going to be a really good player. But he’s not there yet. He has not shown he can shoot the ball consistently, play on the perimeter, or most importantly, be able to guard anyone. You go double bigs for any length of time and offense will bog down even further and worse our bigs who have a precious 10 fouls between them, will accumulate them at stupid rate bc they can’t guard anyone outside of the paint.

The double Bigs help deters drives that killed us last game. The reality is we have guys at all positions who can be beat off the dribble - so the mitigation to that is rim protection and rebound position since we have been out rebounded in recent games.

It’s funny I had to wait 2/3rds of season for people to agree high hedge time is up and now those same people discard my solution.

Why would Hurley say this?

The top 2 ranked teams in February 2026 front court starters:
#1. Michigan: Mara 7-3 255 pds, Johnson 6-9 255pds
#2. Duke: Ngongba 6-11 250 pds, Boozer 6-9 250 pds
What have you been watching? LOL and you throw around the word “dumb” and phrase “two Bigs doesn’t work anymore”.
The Cavs play Mobley and Allen regularly and they do great. The Bucks won a chip with Giannis and Lopez, or Giannis and Portis. The Thunder won a chip with Chet and Hart playing regularly together. Another rim protector at the 4 helps seal up a lot of drives.

That was three months ago… did it ever happen? Why would Hurley say Furphy would play last year? Or to look out for Richie Springs? Or that we would up the athleticism this last offseason? Why would JC say that Justin Brown could be the starting 5 for nine straight years? Coaches are always saying things. 90% of the time it means absolutely nothing.
