Unfortunately, for Tate, it looks like he's going to do some time upwards of 5 years.

Ugh! Worse was the story about the girl who invested the 46K, she invested. Tate is,just not a good person. Good people don't take advantage of others that way. Hope he gets a good amount of time and Nasty Nate takes his fruit cup.

"Villanueva was promised the return of his $250,000, a profit of $37,500 and two percent on the gross for years to come; maybe more than $2 million."

I know none of the details here or any of Tate's other offenses but was CV swindled or was he just a sucker? I mean, who believes a pitch "guaranteeing" you a return?

Tate, like Madoff, is probably a sociopath. He started out with good intentions and when his real investments started losing money he made up fake ones because he couldn't admit failure. After a while the hole got too big.

I think a lot of people rob Peter to pay Paul and assume that they will make a big score and pay it all back without anyone knowing. Unfortunately, downturns in the economy, stock market, real estate etc. make losers out of very smart, successful people sometimes. I think Tate was in way over his head. He didn't have any real experience. I always wondered how he had the knowledge to do what he was doing. Apparently, he didn't.

The problem is that Tate didn't really use the money for himself. In that case maybe the gov can get some of the money back. From what I saw of Tate at a couple of UConn / SHU games, he ate the money. There's no getting that back.

In my very limited experience with Tate he never seemed like a bad guy. I could believe the position that he meant to do well for investors (and himself), but had no real capacity/experience to do so. Then things just spiral out of control. Doesn't make it right, especially if he used money for himself.

Huh, I went to law school with the AUSA and consider him a friend. Really smart guy. But with all the evidence, he doesn't even need to be to put Tate away for a long time.

It's disgusting. And sad to see the UConn connection be exploited like that.

I met Tate a few times at business functions as he was dating a paralegal at my old firm. I found him to be a bit of a politician, impressed with his own celebrity. We were aware at that time of reports that he may have slapped the GF around a bit at some point. Pretty clear at this point that he's a scumbag.

Answer: people, all the time. Witness every ponzi scheme you read about in the press.

Mandeldove does not leave the worst legacy of a player who wore #32 for UConn. That's sad.

I don't know CV is a millionaire. So he got scammed for 250k? Move on, learn a lesson, and let Nasty Nate take Tate's fruit cup in hoosegow.

So basically you're saying it's O.K. for someone to scam people out of $250,000 and get away with it?

Uh no,

Uh no, I just wouldn't go all "Aaron Hernandez" style and risk going to jail for a very long time over 250k, when your a multi millionaire. The girl who lost the 46k, she inherited should go Loraina Bobbit on his ass however.
