In addition to how well Hebard does in the W, I think there is a legitimate question on Ionescu’s ability to step up to the next level as well. Don’t get me wrong. She is the NPOY, and one of the smartest and most efficient players I’ve ever seen. But at the next level, she will be challenged at both ends of the court matching up with players, night in and night out, that are quicker, more athletic and, in some cases, bigger. For instance, how would Ionescu do if she were matched up with Gabby Williams?
It's a valid concern. She really struggled against Didi Richards, but Didi is one of the top defenders in the country. Spacing should be better in the WNBA which suits her since she's a great 3pt shooter and it gives her more space to operate pick and roll. I think she'll be excellent but could take a year or two, sort of like Skylar Diggins. Her passing is top notch and I think she'll continue to rebound well. Scoring and defense might take a little time. Her sheer competitiveness and confidence will give her an edge that few players have. She's about as much of a sure thing as most of the other top players this past decade entering the league.
