I haven't heard any hype for this. This event loses juice every year now. The only school that's even a recent champion is Kansas and they are on the downside since then and Self looks like he won't be coaching much longer. Michigan State never should've been a participant.

This was a big event when it started, the UConn Arizona game the next night is a much bigger game.

Look at the ticket prices too. Cheaper to see a doubleheader than it was for a single game UConn/BYU game. Granted there is no local team tonight. But Kentucky, Duke, and Kansas all travel well.
MSG on a Tuesday, with $500+ hotel rooms around the venue during the holidays, doesn't help - has me staying home this year.

Duke does not travel well ... actually the worst of all 3, there really aren't that many Duke alums and fans out there that travel to games.

People get exited about this event, and it's the closest environment to tournament time, in November.

BTW, I've contacted the organizers several times, and suggested they just change the name to "The Classic" until they swap someone for UConn, ha

Six-foot-six plus 51.5-inch vertical equals 9.5 inches above the rim. That would be the top of Coen Carr's head with a decent jump. Ridiculous

Am I the only one that finds it humorous that the four champions have combined for as many championships (three) during the life of this classic as we have on our own.

We should have been part of this from the start, especially considering that we were the reigning champions when they began this farce of a tournament.

Michigan State beats Kentucky 83-66.

UConn beat MSU pretty easily (never seemed like the Huskies would lose that game). Does it mean anything since it was just an exhibition?
I was wondering the same thing and MSU curb stomped UK

2nd game and already there has been a ton of contact not called. These are how games should be officiated. We can only hope we see this type of officiating tomorrow night and in future games. Now 6:50 to go in the 1st half of Duke and Kansas. A total of 5 fouls called. Unreal when you watch the UConn officiating the other night.

UConn or UNC should easily replace Michigan State. I get the UNC/Duke matchup, but State doesn’t belong.
UConn
UNC
Florida
Nova?
Duke and UNC won’t play outside of the ACC, I think it can only be one team per conference. So if we start a new champions cup it can be UConn, UNC, UCLA and Florida*

That cup will be 100% empty in two years (if it's not held in CT or NC) ... UCLA (unless it's Volleyball) and Florida together will attract 15-17 fans for an early season event, ha

They’re playing UMass and GW of course No casuals are going to that.

Florida fans were best represented at the Final4 this year ...

3 years ago when we played them in Gainesville, we were much louder! and represented at least 25% of the crowd, in an empty on campus stadium ... granted they weren't good that year
