he was one of our best ever but i question if he even had 10 bcs offers. i feel like i remember him being a big catch. no major bcs offers but like almost 10 solid ones or something. prove me wrong on that i guess...he wasn't a 20 offer bag small school public type kid.

He had at least 10 offers, and I'm sure he had more. He counts as a big time recruit when you look at the offers:
Penn State
Michigan State
Boston College
Clemson
West Virginia
Va Tech
Maryland
Pitt
UVA

Anyway, I agree with you, just picking nits. The one or two times we land a kid with an offer list like that it sticks out.

Before I get flamed by FDNY/HFD - I'm not defending SOS. His performance as the position coach for WR is what is. I was more curious about the references to him as a "recruiter". Not knowing full well what the responsibilities of a BCS level Recruiting Coordinator were - I went to dear friend Google.

Here is the Vandy job description for Co-Recruiting Coordinator.Vandy actually has an Offense Recruiting Coordinator (WR Coach) and a Defense Recruiting Coordinator (DB Coach).

Basic Function: Responsible for assisting the Director of Football Operations with the entire recruiting process.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct the recruiting efforts in the absence of the Recruiting Coordinator.
Planning and organizing the logistics of recruiting weekends (officials and unofficial visits).
Maintaining budgetary parameters of recruiting funds as assigned by the Associate Director for Student Athletics.
Arrange specific athletic department support staff and academic support staff for recruiting weekends.
Responsible for allocating per diem funds to football players and support staff when needed .
Works with Undergraduate Admissions to make sure that all necessary paperwork, transcripts, support letters are in place.
Responsible for assigning and supervising task of student workers.
Compose weekly and bi-weekly mailings to prospective student athletes. Responsible for development and continually updating of recruiting “lists” to identify potential student-athletes.
Direct “early-offer” letters to prospects as determined by coaching staff.
Formulate departmental recruiting calendar per NCAA and Vanderbilt guidelines.
Along with Recruiting Coordinator, help maintain film library for recruits.
Organizing summer visitation days for prospective student athletes.
Conduct initial evaluation of prospect transcripts during the April/May recruiting period.
Develop and implement strategies for the organization of the recruiting office.
Directs the ticket and pass list for the student-athletes, families, and visiting football coaches per NCAA and Vanderbilt regulations.
Assist the Director of Football Operations with planning, organizing, and implementing of summer camp, senior banquet, and two-a-days when needed.
Comply with NCAA and SEC rules and regulations.

Doesn't appear they do many in-school/in-house visits. Not sure how it compares to UConn's expectations.

LMAO. You "proved" that the platitudes from recruits mean almost nothing (which I agree with), and then somehow used that to conclude that since the compliments don't mean anything 'Cos must suck. And, to top it off, FDNY applauded your remarkable leap of logic.

None of us have a clue whether any assistant coach is good or not. The fact that neither Edsall nor P has shown any inclination to get rid of the guy is by far the single most probative fact relating to his competence. but since it's not what you want to hear ....

And again, I'm not saying he's a good coach so don't just pretend that I did please.

Does that "none of us" include all my friends who played at UConn under Jackson and Holtz. Who were friendly with and roomed with Lyndon johnson amd vinny marino both former asst at UConn under Edsall. But I am going to assume that with your vast football knowledge you also played in college and can teach them what does and doesn't make a good asst. coach/recruiter. I'm sure they would love for you to educate them, just like they have educated me.
Just look over nxt season towards sect 242 for my reactions to Cersosimo's db's. I do owe you a beer at 1/2 time BL...next season I promise!

It would be similar at UConn but it doesn't help the people who want to rip him for doing a job he's not responsible for. Hard to argue that about the wr's though 2 years of modest improvement in 10 is nothing to beat your chest about. Hopefully he does better as db coach, maybe he can teach them not to continually get burned on short slants and soft middle coverage that w. Mich seemed to eat us up with for two years now. Heres to hope!

I loved watching Vinny Marino on the sidelines when he was coaching by the way. There was a coach who was fired up and whom you could tell the players fed off his emotion.

Well our Wrs coach as a group must have led the country in drops like the last five years by percentage of throws to drops. Since he coaches wrs , then that is what I would judge him on. Verdict....... not good!

Under Edsall that didn't matter all that much... as long as they were coached to block downfield well. :p

Vinny Marino left for Columbia with Norries Wilson (our last good OC who is now rb coach at Rutgers) as his OC when Norries got Columbia job. If I'm not mistaken Cersosimo replaced Vinny at UConn. While at UConn Wilson won the same top asst coach award ND DC Bob Diaco just won.
