>>Central plans on eliminating 35.5 sports scholarships, though those will be phased in to honor existing commitments. They will also require full and partial athletic scholarship recipients to live on campus.<<

I have a friend who's son is affected by this. What kid is going to keep a scholarship and give up the opportunity to play a sport in college? Once the year ends, most of the kids affected will transfer out- the university president will get closer to his budget goal right away. Sad

Instead of crying about reduced handouts from the state, perhaps these schools should look to reduce their administrative staffs, which is the main cause of increased tuitions and budget strains. Here's a link to help you President Toro:

This will happen more and more as the gap between haves and have nots grows in the NCAA. Seems like a reasonable way to save money honestly.

Sometimes hard decisions need to be made. Nobody likes to make these decisions, but they have to be made. If the school cannot afford to operate the sport then what choice does the school have but to eliminate it? It might not be fair, but life is not fair, and it never was meant to be fair. Eventually, UConn is going to need to cut sports. The State of Connecticut cannot keep subsidizing the UConn athletic department.
