According to French news, Celine Dumerc suffered a bad ankle sprain in practice, and is out for the Olympic games.

Too bad. I would think that would make France's bronze medal chances pretty unlikely.

That's terrible news. Maybe not so terrible, of course, for teams like Canada or Spain or Serbia, that figured to need a few breaks to beat France to the podium.

Sorry for her. A real disappoint to go to Rio (with the health risks that involves) only to be injured and not be able to play.

Celine is a tough and talented player. I feel badly for her. Get well, Celine!

I agree that this hurts France's chance to medal.

The one player they could least afford to lose. What a shame. All the preparation and she will miss the games.

Paul Nilsen who reports on FIBA news has tweeted that Sancho Lyttle is not playing for Spain in the Olympics. Like Dumerc for France this is a HUGE loss for Spain. Can't see them getting a Medal now.

I hate to see great young athletes injured. Yet injuries are a part of every sport. I wish them both nothing but health and success against all teams herein. Except of course against the USA. I enjoy seeing all teams and countries competing with all hands healthy. The best of competition with the least of excuses.

Surely her heart will go on, though.

It's a shame about Dumerc. In the Bridgeport game against Australia, she was clearly France's best player.
