When did Geno ever sit out?
>STORRS — UConn women's coach Geno Auriemma returned to Norristown, Pa., Friday after the death of his father and is not expected to >coach the team during the Big East tournament at Gampel Pavilion.

>Auriemma's place will be taken by associate head coach Chris Dailey. Top-seeded UConn will play its first tournament game Sunday at 2 >p.m. against the winner of a game today between Providence and Villanova.

CD missed a game last season...SMU, I think, to attend a family wedding.

I really think CD should get a statue, or at least a bust, at UConn after she retires. I also think she should be given serious consideration for the women's hall of fame. She is the most successful assistant/associate in WCBB history and has to be one of the more successful ones in all of college sports.

Since CD coached for wins while Geno was out, didn't she reach 1000 wins already?

Good point, I didn't think about that. Yes, she should have over 1,000 wins. C.D. stood in for so many games :).

Didn't the university suspend Geno for one game back in the 90's for his postgame comment (Syracuse? BC?), "This is what you get when you mix bad players with bad refs"?

I know Geno was suspended, but I can't remember why. Yes, it was in the 90's.

I think Geno got credit for the games he missed, just as Pat got credit for her final season, when she was more figurehead than actual coach due to her deteriorating physical condition.

UConn is very conscious of CD's accomplishments. Here's their official promo of the next game:

Geno has been ejected numerous times and suspended. During those times, C.D. stepped in as the Coach. The teams won during C.D. times of Coaching.
Numerous times? ejected and suspended? In 1992 he was ejected against Vandy. When else? And when was he suspended and for what?

definitely suspended for a season game and I think also the Big East tourny. in 1989, doing a team a favor that he thought he was scrimmaging but it turned out to be a counted game and one more than he could legally schedule. others will remember the details better.
