Looking at the NEC bracket/teams and remembered this conversation from November. Just checking in to say Arkansas State did in fact beat Memphis, finish tied for 1st in the Sun Belt with a 22-9 record, and end up top 100 on KenPom @gsmooth

November: Other NCAAB Games
I got that one wrong. Arkansas State is legit. I remember watching that game against Memphis-they beat the brakes off them and had them demoralized in that game. I just thought Alabama, at home, still shouldn't have had as much trouble defeating them.

Let’s go hard hittin’. I don’t think they’ve been in tourney since the Rick Mickens Corsley Edwards Howie Dickenman days- I remember they played Pittsburgh one year in the first round and then they played Iowa st in the 2-15 game another year. Hung with them. Jamal Tinsley and Marcus fixer squad.

Almost. We were back in 2007 with a team that was led by Javier Mojica, Tristan Blackwood, and Obie Ndwadike. Played Ohio State with Greg Oden and Mike Conley. Mojica is still playing professionally.

CCSU is no where near a powerhouse in basketball and below mid major, but you are a dedicated fan of them that knows so much about them-I dig it.

Let's raise a glass and a toast to the Connecticut teams this weekend for prosperity.

I believe in mid to late 90s central had one of their best teams that was a 15 seed that gave Iowa State a run in first round game. Don’t recall specifics but that was a fun team to watch. Rooting hard for them to get there again this year.
I remember watching the game although I confused them with Oklahoma State .in 2000 My memory isn’t is sharp as it used to to be so I looked it up .They also didn’t get humiliated by Pitt and Ohio State after that
2002,2007
The 2002 team had 27 wins .

Chairback and reserved seats for the championship game will be $20. General admission tickets are $15.00 and GA youth/senior tickets will be $10. CCSU student ticket distribution of 500 tickets will take place on Tuesday morning at 10:00 am.

$10-$20 is a steal for a D1 championship game.

I’m surprised only 500 tickets for students. But I think the gym only seats 2500. They should expand the press box into second story seating. Maybe that can add a few hundred seats. Wishful thinking… or just play it at the XL center.

As any Central fan will tell you, we don't want to play at the XL Center. There's something magical about playing a championship game at Detrick Gymnasium. Btw, in 2002, CCSU oversold the tickets by almost 1000! In 2007, they oversold by 600. So, yeah, the gym only holds 2500, but that's not stopping us from packing in over 3000 crazy fans. (And we're not inviting the fire marshal.) :)

Having said all that, would we LOVE a new arena? Yessir! Would we settle for a major facelift--adding some permanent seating...bringing the seating closer to the court...adding a concourse halfway up....??? Yeah, I think we could live with that.
The problem is--and I know this won't be a popular sentiment on the Boneyard--we're operating on a bare bones budget while UConn has a tremendous amount of resources from private donors and the State. The State of Connecticut funds CCSU as if it's a D3 school. Makes things REALLY tough.

I’ve always thought a good idea would be to pool state schools and athletics into one banner. Connecticut State University (all D1) with East, West, and Southern satellite schools and Central being the home campus. Wishful thinking and totally get funding.

Interesting you say that. Growing up in the 80s I could never dream UConn Basketball would ascend to the heights it has done so and be a Blue Blood of the sport. With 6 titles, 7 Final Fours, and countless players sent to the NBA that have been successful, we as UConn fans really can't complain or be jealous of anything-it's usually the fans of other schools jealous of UConn.

One thing I am slightly jealous of, and maybe this is me being spoiled and arrogant like Ed Cooley says, is that UConn does not have an in state rival like these schools:

Duke-North Carolina
Kentucky-Louisville
Michigan-Michgan State
Providence-Rhode Island
Seton Hall-Rutgers
Florida-Florida State
Iowa-Iowa State
Indiana-Purdue
UCLA-USC
Marquette-Wisconsin
Creighton-Nebraska

etc.

I don't know the charter of CT State Colleges and Universities and how it might differ from your thoughts but here is some info. I'm not sure how involved this organization is in regards to athletics.

Make Rhode Island a Connecticut county and then we have PeeCee.
