Big East hoops schools can't dissolve league, sources told @espn. Can leave as group w/out paying exit fees, but must wait 27 months

That would buy us a little more time. Might keep Louisville around a little longer too. Main thing, is this combined with the last year of the BCS at least delays a big drop in UConn athletic revenues, hopefully... but it would be nice if we could collect the exit fees.

What kind of deal will they work out to get out sooner? No team has stayed 27 months. Add the no exit fee and this has early exit written all over it.

They would be better off with those schools leaving now so that UConn and Cincy and USF can take all the NCAA credits.

I'm not sure about whether schools who are leaving are eligible for credits, I assume they are.

Do they have enough votes to change the conditions? Is it just a majority?

Syracuse and Pitt stayed the full 2 years. This buys us a little time

They can walk away, either side can.

If they want to walk, let them. They are trying to scare us (and Cincy) and likely get some very favorable terms . They wouldn't say that they are planning the official announcement on a week if it wasn't merely a threat for leverage. They may end up taking this bluff too far, forcing a walkaway but, short term there won't be a whole lot of difference than if they did stay (at least as far as we are concerned). Long term, hell, we are screwed either way if long term doesn't have us on the B1G or ACC.

They do have a majority. The problem is it doesn't get them anywhere because the money is all wrapped up in a colossal clusterfrig. So, they vote to leave without exit fees--while collecting NCAA credits.

If I recall the bylaws correctly, dissolving the league requires 2/3 majority of "full members" aka not the football only affiliates.

As for the 27 months... that pertains to departing members, not dissolving the league, and goes hand in hand with $5mil in exit fees... not sure how they get around that without dissolving the league.

No they didn't. Both negotiated to leave early. Both announced they were leaving the conference last fall. Had they stayed the full 27 months, they'd be in theBig East for next season, or 2013-2014. They won't be.
