Caroline?

Caroline came out of the game and quickly ran off the court to the locker room, any insight?
Geno said that she took herself out of the game........he said he may have played her too much but not sure exactly what that means....

"She’s already checked off the first two boxes. From what we know, she’s remained healthy (though she appeared to nearly vomit on the court late against Marquette) and according to the head coach, has made progress in practice, albeit slowly."

No big deal, she is not an instrumental player. Just Geno doing the right thing with Caroline. She was her freshmen year a stud player with no fear. Atop recruit who fell off due injury. Great leader and teammate,
Have a soft spot in my heart for her.
With Carol it isn't about her on-court stuff, it is about her as a human being. That is what people are concerned with.

Wow! Not an instrumental player. She may not be an effective player like she was her freshman year. But I would say that she is the most influential player on the team. When the kids go to her for help, advice or whatever she is there for them from what I have read. You are referenced as Mom on the team then I believe that you are doing more than just being a basketball player.

Are you serious? She is not instrumental? EVERY PLAYER IS INSTRUMENTAL!!! Especially Caroline...she's busting her butt on the court to help this team get better and hopefully get better herself.
If I was allowed, I would tell you who is not instrumental...

You guys are splitting hairs in a sense - there are some on here that will allow NO criticisms of Caroline. I don't disagree that the OP you referenced was a tad blunt, but I take more umbrage at his comment "no big deal". Of course it's a big deal when a beloved player sprints off the court for an unknown reason.

Not instrumental as a player contributing with scoring, defense, etc. on the floor? I agree. Instrumental in the locker room, as a teammate, player, friend, inspiration, team mom, etc.? Absolutely. And she's a total leader in ways that don't show up on the stat sheet. Both things can be true at the same time.

Let's be honest - against Marquette, it was the first time since she's been back (to my old eyes) that Caroline looked remotely smooth on the floor. I was thrilled for her. But... Her shooting has been poor, she's been a turnover machine in her minutes, gets trapped, poor passes, a step slow on offense and defense, etc. Maybe we'll be lucky (from a playing perspective) and she will ease into something closer to the player she was as a freshman.

I think to a person, UConn fans absolutely adore her. I know I do, and I'm thrilled she's a part of the team, no matter what capacity.

Well said, ConnMotors. Caroline's involvement with this team cannot be confined to what she does on the court. She is an inspiration to all showing what hard work and determination can do. If she never regains her once excellent playing ability - and we all hope that she does - her mere presence off the court, in practice and cheering while on the bench cannot be underestimated. If her playing days may not pan out as she wants, I for one think she would be an excellent assistant and one day a head coach. But in the meantime, go Caroline, keep chugging and kick a**!

I don't think we should expect anything major from Caroline, but I found her stats thus far very interesting. I am simplifying somewhat, but if you ignore her scoring and shooting stats for a moment, the rest of her stats are generally pretty good, and in fact better than she was as a freshmen. Sort of like you might normally expect from a senior vs. their freshmen season.

Her PER stat is not good, but almost entirely due to the shooting numbers which are not just sub par, but horrendously so. What I am getting at is if her scoring/shooting numbers went up to even mediocre, her overall numbers would be pretty decent, and she might be a possible addition for the regular big game rotation.

Those numbers of course are from a relatively small sample size, but I wonder how she is shooting in practice? if she looks like Caroline of old there, then these shooting numbers so far can be largely discounted. Geno's comments so far seem to suggest there are times she looks like she was, but it is inconsistent.

For now it looks almost like she is the glue player for the third unit. Runs the plays, knows the system, doesn't make many mistakes, contributes in several ways other than scoring which may or may not return, but if it does she might be the best injury insurance if someone goes down.

Wow, I agree, but I bet you had Nan shaking in her boots.

I wonder the route she'll take into coaching. Has she taken education courses? Straight into HS coaching. Graduate assisting- Duke mens has always had ex-players in this role.
My best friend in HS went to Notre Dame, was a manager for Digger Phelps and got a pretty big head coaching gig at St Stephens in Alexandria right out of college. He ended up having a prolific career. I was his first assistant.

Amazing how pi*sed I became in a heartbeat.

Totally unable to respond.

The following posts enabled me to calm down.

Now I realize some people don’t know * about players, programs, team structures, or empathy.

So on with my day. Going to pick up a
Loaf of sourdough bread and a sandwich loaf with honey both made einkorn flour fresh out of the oven this morning . 😋
