Has everyone missed the boat on Carlton? When he stays under the hoop and gets physical and defends he really isn't that bad. Its when he is forced fed the ball in the paint that he is terrible. He misses bunnies, free throws when he is fouled and turns the ball over, along with the occassional walk and offensive foul. He does well on putbacks, much like Whaley. The solution. Stop feeding him in the low post. He can set interior picks and get position for rebounds. Stop sending him out to half court to make passes he can't make. Stop sending him out on hard edges on defense. Carlton could easily fill the role played by Nolan on the 2014 team.
When he's fed in the paint, he bricks layups because he has 0 vision kicking it out when he doesn't have good position.
He also gave up 8/12 of our first.points yesterday. 6 were isos on the right block. 2 were a bad closeout to the shoulder.
He can't defend inside or out. Or score consistently right now.
There are plenty of big slow dudes that make it worker in high major ball. Until he develops the IQ to defend well and know when to shoot or kick it out, there's not much playing time for him against most teams.
I have faith Hurley will have him ready next season. Maybe in a reduced role he can be more comfortable being super aggressive--exactly what we need from him
