Is number 9 in the Women's Basketball RPI. That says they are the number 1 3 seed. Anyone think there is any chance the committee puts them anywhere near a 3 seed? More likely a 6? Then why even have the RPI? The RPI does give UConn a few decent, but not impactful, wins in conference with the wins over UCF, USF and Cincy. DePaul is down to 20. Looks like UConn will be around 5 in the ranking. Says we should be the number 1 two seed. We will see.

RPI is a tool the committee uses as a starting point but so are Q1 and Q2 wins and Q3 and Q4 losses. Looking at strength of schedule, current win streaks and current losing streaks also play significant roles. Player injuries may also factor in as does a conference championship earned. While it seems logical and straight forward that we could come up with a strong case, as we know, "lies, damned lies and statistics" will be misused by the committee to let teams we deem unworthy by all logic back into the field of 64 with some teams getting crummy seeding and others getting favorable seeding. Let the angst, irritation, frustration and downright anger begin...

I've watched Princeton play a few times this year, including the last game. They are so well coached I think they could upset almost anyone below the 1 seeds and a couple of the 2 seeds.

I wouldn't want to see UConn play them on an off night.

So, in my opinion, a 3 seed is merited, a 4 at the absolute worst. Anything below that brings the RPI's credibility into doubt, which is wrong. The RPI is a reliable measure.

RPI has never been the primary determinant of seeding. Ever.

Last year UCF was #15 in the RPI, but they were not a 4 seed (nor should they have been). They were a 12.

Princeton will probably be a 6 seed, or a 5 at the highest. Their best wins are over FGCU and Penn.

They lost to Iowa by two in overtime at Iowa and have beaten everyone by former UConn margins, including FGCU, which is still ranked by the coaches. They also have one of the best players in the country and are the nation’s highest ranked team on defense. That deserves a three or four seed and NO ONE will want to play them.
