What happens when everyone retaliates against us? When Trump said drill, baby drill I didn't realize he was talking about the stock market. Weekend Dow down 365 pts.

I am glad he is doing what he said he would do during the campaign. His cult didn’t care then, but I think they will care now.
I'm not part of his cult but I am part of a "cult" who lost a child to fentanyl poisoning. I mentioned this several years back on the leach field. I know the parents in my survivor groups are happy he is following through with the campaign promises and trying to close the open border and trying to reduce the flow of fentanyl into the country. Tariffs were part of that plan. We would gladly exchange paying more for gas or orange juice to have our children back. I know parents who may lose a child over the next few years would take the chance of paying more now if they knew their child would survive. We hope that this is a temporary negotiating tool and will bring Mexico, China and Canada to the table to come up with a plan.

I sympathize with parents and relatives that have lost loved ones to fentanyl overdoses but as the article below shows most is brought into the US via legal entry points by US citizens.

Until the demand for illicit drugs in the US decreases it will always find a way to flow over the borders. Until treatment facilities increase in number and become affordable from a cost perspective and addicts are given the amount of support needed both during treatment and afterwards the demand will remain high.

Just look at the US compared to other nations - it is less about availability than it is about Harm Reduction Policies

Do you think this is the best way to solve the fentanyl issue? I think Kathy has great points in her post and I think it shows that Trump is more about grandstanding and bullying than fixing the problem.

I honesty do not care how the fentanyl is coming. Regardless of tactic it will be here but anything we do to decrease it is a win. There is no denying that it is also coming over the open border. I would like to stop as much as we can and have these countries assist.

I get it but if you read 90% comes through legal channels - only 10% from 'open' borders - another Republican false narrative

I think your opinion is more based on hope than anything else.

“Briefing reporters Saturday evening, White House officials declined to lay out specific benchmarks that Canada or Mexico could reach in tightening their borders or curbing fentanyl flows that would allow the tariffs to be lifted.

And Trump himself told reporters late Friday he wasn’t looking for any concessions at all. In his social media posting Sunday morning, his rationale for the tariffs extended well beyond punishment for the illicit flow of fentanyl.

“The USA has major deficits with Canada, Mexico, and China (and almost all countries!), owes 36 Trillion Dollars, and we’re not going to be the ‘Stupid Country’ any longer,” he wrote. “MAKE YOUR PRODUCT IN THE USA AND THERE ARE NO TARIFFS!””

Yes he did say that that there were other considerations beyond fentanyl

The car part plants in MI and OH can't close fast enough for me. FAFO, but Trump has been a boon to the Palestinian cause, amirite?

The bolder is rolling down the hill and won't be stopped until is smashes everything downstream.

That means there is no way to avoid the Trump cataclysm until the people that voted for him, turn on him. Those of us who saw this coming and tried to stop it have nothing to do but watch and wait.

The oligarchs are taking over and as of today, the rubes are still cheering them on.
