Not a single complimentary word about UConn. People in other places actually read them, and think they have all the reasons UConn belongs back in the Yankee Conference. None of them should be getting free press passes. I'm looking at you Jacobs, DiMauro, and Anthony. Disgraceful.

I don't agree at all with the premise, but the snark level is unparalleled in college sports. Before Maine was even in the end zone on the fumble return, most of them were tweeting the date of Midnight Madness.

Jacobs and Anthony's pieces could've been lifted verbatim from this very board last night and it wouldn't have surprised me.

To report last night's game as anything but disgraceful would be a failure on their part to do their job. With that being said, there is a certain undeserved level of negativity on the whole. Part of it comes from the reporters being used to covering championship basketball and pro sports in NY and Boston, the two most successful pro sports cities.

Just curious - what exactly could they have written about last night that was positive? Each piece covered the fact that we won. Other than that, what were the positives? The articles could have read along the lines of...

"UConn beat Maine, 24-21. The End."

Perhaps a back-handed compliment such as: Well, this is UConn's first game and they typically start their seasons with a slow start. AS bad as they were at stopping Maine and executing, they managed to win and not give up...Not sure, but if this game was played 4 years ago, this team loses and does not actually stay in it. Coach D. is obviously a good disciplinarian something this team needed after the PP era. We will have to wait for next week to see if this is trully UConn football or the brushing off of the cob-webs!

Now as a fan and not being in the unbiased media - here are some of my comments:
Each man on our O-line outweighed their opposition by at least 40lbs...but could you tell that? We were getting pushed round. Granted we have a new center who was red-shirted last season...but come on man! Perhaps, we wanted to lure Navy into a sense of complacency, afterall when they look at the film, what are they going to prepare for???

You're showing your communist colors again. Ban the media to prevent bad news from being released.

Here's an idea. Put a product on the field that doesn't allow them to write with the level of disdain and snark.

My colors are red, white, and blue. UConn blue. It's not like they haven't been overly negative for years in many sports. When we get kicked to the G5 curb again, remember who helped influence it.

They might as well have written the 2016 version of the famous Harvard/Yale headline and said "Maine Upsets UConn 21-24"

Because it felt like a loss. The writers did a fair job, I thought.

PPGDL and BDTV.

I'm not sure we watched the same game last night. As reporters go, I think they reported a fairly accurate, albeit brutal portrayal. The only positive last night was the kids found a way to win on the verge of losing to a vastly inferior FCS program that didn't event finish .500 last year and had key players out. I don't know what you expect.

I could care less about the writers when I want the best Uconn info I go on the boneyard I jus want handsome Bob to try to win every play of every game and not give a crap about the results or what some writer thinks no disrespect to any of y'all meant either we all love them huskies

I absolutely agree it was a tough game to watch, and thank God we won, but I just get really tired of their constant nitpicking of every flaw.

It felt like that sort of headline.

Fuller is usually pretty fair too... Bobby Puyol field goal helps UConn edge Maine in season opener

It's Jacobs job to poke/be salty and DiMauro is a BC grad so he can't help it (though occasionally he's pretty supportive.).

I agree that's what's written travels faster than in the past and as @zls44 points out, the Twitter snark by media (and fans is even worse.)

The solution is easy. Put a P5 product on the field. Did all of you enjoy the game? I was very disappointed in the product. If we are going to delivers years of of run-run-pass-punt, I am not sure I can continue to devote huge chunks of my time in the future. I've been a season ticket holder for 9 years now. They are wearing me down.

I keep hearing about northeast football. It was 80 degrees last night. How many ice cold games have we played in the last 5 years? Damn, we will play 3/4 games every year while the calendar shows summer. A good chunk of our schedule is played outside New England. Where is the advantage of Northesst football? With the exception of a bowl game, none of our games will be played in December.

I'm not sure what all the folks thought should be said about that mess because that's what it was, a mess. It was a win and we move on but to say that win instilled any sense of confidence would be kidding yourself. A bend not break defense is great but they broke, a lot on Thursday. Late in the game and you have a TD lead and you let a 40 yard TD pass? Really?

With CR stress getting higher and higher and it being said that football success is a must for the Big 12, whether true or not, seeing us barely beat a FCS weakling is scary. I thought Jacobs did a pretty good job expressing this sentiment.

Not sure what amazing things should have been reported about that game. You can put lipstick on a pig but it isn't going to change the reality of how terrible that game was. Here's to hoping it was a blip on the radar and we show a different product against Navy next week.

68 it's only fair they report what they saw. While I don't follow the media as much during football and see you feel they are consistently hard on the program, they had nothing to view as positive form that game. The final score was hardly anything to be happy about never mind the way the game was played. Coaches, players need to know that was nothing to smile about and need to get their collective heads together and improve, dramatically. The offense was obviously abysmal but what not many are talking about is the defense looked swiss cheese-ish vs Maine - what's going to happen vs Navy and beyond?

Hate to say it but unless they had opening night jitters and FV held back on that playbook, long season is awaiting - real long.

I will throw in this caveat.

I do believe UConn should exert more pressure on IMG for its selection of announcers, their performance and content.

Having the host of the coaches show misidentify Obi as a team captain is beyond embarrassing.

PPGDL and BDTV.
It's past the time to blame PP+GDL. This is season 3 of the new guys. I generally like the direction we're headed as far as the kids go, but the coaching is a little shaky. I'm not seeing a return to smash-mouth football coming anytime soon (like they promised).
