They seem to make great football hiring decisions tear in and year out with out skipping a beat. They just destroyed a big 10 program and have a rock star head coach. What the hell is keeping Uconn from doing that? Is it a money issue... Do we go for the budget AD's? Watch Cinci become the new it team now ... The program has great buzz, plays exciting football and as far as I know doesn't have many off the field issues.

They looked good - Purdue struggled more than expected but no doubt Cincinnati has the better team

Cincinnati is going to have the year that I was hoping UCONN was going to have: made an excellent coaching hire, win 8+ games, qualify for a bowl game, set attendance records (playing at Paul Brown Stadium should inflate their average), AND announce stadium expansion. Yup, we are way down the CR ladder these days. We better pray that USF, UCF, Temple, Houston, etc don't try to get all progressive on us.

The saddest part of this is that if we performed equal to Cincy throughout the years we were both in the BE we would be in the B1G today.

Why would Cinci's AD want the UConn job? They will probably be in a power conference before we are.

People in the stands as well. We can't fill our 25,000 seat stadium.

So freakin sad, but the only way we move on from this disaster is with a huge but controversial hire. There is no time to take the high road and I just don't think the right people get that.

Well ... There've been more than one AD at Cincinnati. So, we are talking about 4 good hires in a row over a few ADs.

This is really about Hathaway. And the Demon choice of Pasqualoni or Whipple. Just incredible.

I wish we got Whipple!

The only way this gets fixed is if this is a priority from the Board of Trustees down. That means the BOT makes it clear to Herbst she will make FB a priority. They must find a qualified, first rate AD and go find a great coach.

We are where we are because there is no priority to fix it. Herbst is a non-Football DNA President. Manuel is an inexperienced, unconnected AD from a joke school, and PP is a proven failure. He loser in the chain sees it in their best interest to keep status quo, make excuses and cash paychecks. We have a perfect storm of incompetence, inexperience and lack of priority.

Good news is this will get fixed one way or another. I don't see folks supporting this cadre of clowns for too long. The biggest leadership void sits in the President's office because she really doesn't care about FB or big time sports for that matter.

One of the questions asked of Board of Trustees nominees was:

11. What effect do you think conference realignment will have on UConn athletics? Do you have any concerns about the realignment?

If only they'd have asked Hathaway, "What effect do you think Paul Pasqualoni will have on UConn Football? Do you have any concerns about going 5-7 and fading into obscurity?

Cincinnati is playing at Nippert Stadium this year, the renovation will begin in December and UC will play the 2014 season at Paul Brown Stadium.

The Athletic Department made the decision to allow for some overflow seating that pushed the attendance to 36,007 which is the record attendance at Nippert Stadium. A nice PR ploy, IMO.

And you know this how ?

Cincy is doing great while we are falling apart day by day. I was adamant about firing coach PP at end of the last year. Our AD did nothing and now we are really paying for it. It is a freaking joke how far we have fallen with this old recycled coach at the helm. He is done and he can't relate to today's players. UCONN's style of play is old and outdated. GDL has been an absolute disaster of the epic portion.

If our AD does not do something soon to save this season, we are totally screwed. We need to fire PP like today and put the OC as the interim HC to see what he can do. We need a young and upcoming coach who is hungry vs. someone just there to collect a paycheck while doing nothing. GDL and PP got to go today!

Cincy will have a Big 12 invite before the season is over. Mark it down. The AAC was a disgrace this weekend with Cincy being the only bright spot. They won't be around long...which would make every 2003 BE addition, minus USF, find a better spot than us. Just amazing....

Res ipsa loquitur...
Not saying she is a bad college president. I'm saying she is a bad football college president. She never led a football university or any for that matter, and her role was academics related as a Dean. She has no experience with the role of or sense of priority with respect to football.

True, Georgia is not a football university.

Yeah he's a bb guy but he's a product of JC and JC pushed for a strong football program at UConn. I voted for this guy. Hopefully a step in the right direction.

Not what I said. She was never a president of a football school. She was on the academic side.
According to your logic, unless a university hires a president who has (or had) been president of a football school, there is no chance that said person can comprehend the benefits of a successful, major football program. Brilliant!

Believe it or not with very few exceptions, school presidents are on the academic side and for the entirety of their careers, building to becoming president of an academic institution, held jobs that were entirely academic.

Yes, there is the need for a monumental change in culture if we are to become something substantial in major college football. That change however is not needed in the the persons of President Herbst who has worked at Georgia, Georgia Tech and Northwestern where she was able to see first hand the benefits an academic institution can receive from a competitive, high profile football program, or AD Manuel, whose alma mater broke the ground on a large state school becoming a major national institute due to football prowess.

The change in culture is needed within the state of Connecticut, its politicians and residents along with much of our alumni base and fan base. We have fans on both the men's and women's boards who have continually griped (even when we were pretty good) about the football program and we now have a thread on the men's board (I seldom visit the women's board) claiming that we've never should have attempted to field a major football program as we are a basketball and soccer school.

I have very little doubt that SH & WM are more than willing to make sweeping changes, beyond what most of us can comprehend, to set the football program in the right direction. The question is, will they receive sufficient support, from state politicians, citizens and those within the university to put these changes in place.

Cinci been a D1A team longer than UConn, so they can hire coaches because they been playing with the big boys since the 1960s. We been playing against UVM (before they disbanded FB), UNH, Maine, URI, Holy Cross while they were play OSU, PSU, Pitt, ND...
