Beating all of you to the punch, about my post about no one should have Sue Bird in the top five for the MVP voting.

Results of the 2011 WNBA most valuable player of the year award voting (with first-place votes in parantheses):

(though I still question a top five that did not have at least one of Penny Taylor or Angel McCoughtry)

Congrats to Catch. She had a great year. I too am surprised that McCoughtry didn't get a first place vote.

Congrats to Tamika for a well-deserved honor. I am surprised by the results. I didn't expect Bird to finish ahead of Whalen.

Penny Taylor had as good a season as any player in the league this year, including Catchings. The fact that she didn't finish top 5 is likely due to the up and down season the Merc had and the presence of Taurasi who always overshadows her teammates.

Congrats to Tina for finishing second. I didn't think of her as an MVP but her time will surely come.

Penny Taylor is overshadowed everywhere she plays. She was the MVP of the 2006 World Championships, yet consistently underrated/overlooked.

Penny Taylor shot 51 percent from the floor, 40 percent from three, and 87 percent from the line this year. She was a few missed free throws from becoming the first player in WNBA history to pull off "50-40-90" (while playing in enough games to qualify for statistical ranking) in a season. She also 16.7 ponits, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.7 assists, nearly becoming the first player in WNBA history to pull off "15-5-5."

Very interesting. Note that Seimone was not in the top 5.

Cam makes a good argument for Penny. I think she is solid, but perhaps too low-key to get the recognition she deserves.

I would have had Tina higher and Sylvia lower, given that Chicago missed the playoffs.

I also think that Angel is top 3. I'd put Catch at 4-6.

Sue controls her team better than anyone. She is the best coach on the floor in the league. And her numbers are good.
