I'd thought of a thread for the beginning of practice, but I thought that a lot of the same music would be appropriate for the beginning of the season, which is coming right up -- blood-pumping stuff, full of joy and hope. So I thought of peaceful music, renamed for obvious reasons.

Post something that you find calming, relaxing, peaceful. Could be the lyrics, could be the music.

I'll open with one from Eno, father of the very calming ambient music. This is from one of his early albums:

And another, keeping with the sea theme. I actually discovered this one in a music thread from 4-5 years ago, posted by someone who no longer posts.

Electronic music runs the full gamut, some of it is quite aggressive. But the mellower end of the spectrum I find quite soothing. Like this one.

Charles Lloyd has made some quite beautiful music through the years; i first picked up his music (Forest Flower) about 55 years ago when i was an undergrad at UCSB. This is from a recent album w Lucinda Williams, who sings on about half the cuts:

My favorite album. George was also "famous" for "Plastic Jesus" which is hard to believe. I couldn't pick a favorite song from this album so here's the whole thing. Enjoy

And of course there's George Winston and the entire Windham Hill group. Appropriate for the season.

Jacques Loussier died five years ago; but this recording of Satie remains haunting - classical through a jazz trio lens:

I wouldn't call any of the songs off this recording hits, but it's nearly a perfect album if you are looking for something mellow and beautiful.

A whole bunch of this band's songs work. "Fade Into You" is their quintessential song, but I just posted that in another thread recently. So I'll go with this one.
