The 4th biweekly edition of the 2020-21 Boneyard Top 25 poll — and the first of the 2021 calendar year — is rapidly approaching.

Ballots are due to me, via private message, by 11:00 a.m. ET on Monday, Jan. 4. (If you don't know how to send a PM, let me know in this thread and I will PM you first.) Ballots should reflect all games played through Sunday, Jan. 3.

2020HOWTOVOTE_080520_V01_BV_1596666870539_hpMain_16x9_1600.jpg

Some notes and reminders:
  • Early ballots are generally not allowed, unless accompanied by instructions for contingency scenarios. All ballots need to reflect the same body of work, i.e., all games played through Sunday.
  • Please double-check your ballot for inadvertently repeated teams. This error is all too easy to make but none too easy to catch. Here's a tip: Once you think you have your final rankings, copy them into Word or Excel or a similar program, and then sort the team names alphabetically. This should make it readily apparent if any team is listed twice.
  • Full ballots (of 25 teams) are strongly encouraged; short ballots (of at least 10 teams) are accepted.
  • No ties are allowed on a ballot. Each team on the ballot must have a unique ranking.
  • All voters are welcome regardless of fan base affiliation. The only requirement is to have a Boneyard account. Also, there is no requirement to have participated in previous polls.

Tony, thanks for your ballot. You're more than welcome to share your ballot publicly, but most voters send it to me in a private message instead. Whatever way you're most comfortable with :)

Hey Tonyc, just a friendly note... you have MD in there twice at #9 & #14 :)
Thank you @LowkeyX !

Maybe I should start requiring all ballots to be posted here. That way these anomalies can be caught more timely by the extra eyes! :)

Tony, this is quite the common mistake. Seemingly in every poll we have at least one or two repeaters. Please submit your revised ballot by the 11 am deadline :)

Thanks a bunch for doing this - saves a ton of work. I can’t believe how many of these games I actually watched - or watched meaningful chunks of. Especially today, during all the playoff-deciding NFL games.

No problem! @Plebe... working on my ballot now & I must admit, it gets tough after #6! I have Baylor moving up to #6 & Texas A&M at #7 but I still don’t feel like they’re the 7th best team in the country. & then KY moves up to #8 to me by default b/c of the two big ranked wins but I don’t think they’ll end up there by season’s end... good & deep team but not the 8th best team in my opinion.

A few unanswered questions

1. If a poster ranks a team with a losing record.... or has ended their season.... will that vote get tossed?

2. Division I schools only ??

I am pleased to share with you the entirely accurate results of the latest Boneyard Top 25 that Plebe asked me to share.

1. Duke
2. Nicholls State
3. High Point
4. whaaaa did @triaddukefan hack my account?
5. Denver (Doshia Woods is fabulous, and has a fantastic story.)
6. South Carolina
7. Tennessee
8. Quinnipiac (okay, okay, they did just knock off previously unbeaten Marist in OT!)
9. William but not Mary
10. Central Arkansas

You'll have to wait for the rest, but I have it on good authority that UConn got at least one first place vote, yet didn't end up ranked in the top spot.

I think my University of Providence Argonauts should crack the top 10 now. They just bested the Orediggers of Montana Tech 85-81 for their first win of the season. Parker Esary showing why she’s an All American with 21 pts and 12 reb.

Well it's been a rather eventful day with some unforeseen setbacks and pitfalls.

A certain influential windbag, who shall remain nameless, took up an inordinate portion of my day with impertinent phone calls claiming voter fraud and demanding that a certain team be credited with enough votes to place it first.

I've now relocated to a bunker in an undisclosed location so as to proceed unmolested with the tally.

I had no idea that the Providence you cite in your avatar and your moniker were related. Do you know, how did a Roman Catholic university wind up with teams named after characters from Greek mythology?

No idea, but the irony was not lost on the English and history majors. We asked, but no one seemed to have any real answer, but we joked that it was because Carroll College (our rival university in Helena) had already staked claim on the Fighting Saints.

But the university community, religious and otherwise, has zero qualms with it. Go figure. When the university was renamed a few years ago (from the University of Great Falls to the University of Providence), all of the polling showed that the Argonaut name was the thing people were most connected to.
