After a lackluster first quarter and which Cal had six steals ASU finished the half on a 12-2 to run to take a 12-point lead into the half.

Taya Hanson and Jamie Ruden each have nine points.

Reili Richardson needs one more assists to become the all-time assist leader in ASU history men and women.

7:33 mark first appearance of the curtain of distraction. No effect as Cal guard hits both free throws. 8 point game

Reili just set the record.... now all time leader in assists ASU men and women.

Jamie Ruden with 18 points on 4-4 shooting from the 3 line.

65-41

Omg. Let me clear my eyes because I must be seeing things. ASU actually had a comfortable, no-drama win over someone? Can't even remember the last time this happened.

Ikr. California really helped. After a close first quarter the Bears thought they were in the WNBA and jacked up 8 threes.

It was actually very strange to watch the Bears. They have a significant height advantage over the Devils and West is a monster. Of course the Devil defense was really clicking but it didn't seem like the Bears had the patience or inclination to work the ball inside.

To give you an idea of how weak the taller Bears inside game was, Kiki Russell our rebounding guard had six boards.

Our two bigs Jamie Ruden and Ja:Tvia Tapley had a total of 1 rebound. So our guards and wings were rebounding the heck out of the ball in large part because the Bears decided they didn't need to block anybody out.

Very positive game after the Utah fiasco. The Sun Devils will meet Cal again in the first round of the PAC tournament.

Curtain of distraction 3 for 7 !
Should be banned. Too close to the court not to impact shooting. However, can be very clever at times. My all-time favorite is Michael Phelps with his gold medals.

ASU should track the opponents' FT % at home and away. My guess is that the curtain makes a difference overall.

It's one of college basketball's funniest and most effective weapons, nestled behind the opponents' hoop at home games in Tempe, Arizona: the "Curtain of Distraction."

ESPN Stats & Info ran the numbers for the season so far, entering Feb. 11, 2019. . .So if opponents shot the same percentage in the second half as they did in the first half, they would score around one more point per game. It's nothing crazy, sure, but it's an advantage -- we'll take it.

Look, as a Stanford fan, my team is always on the losing end of the curtain of distraction, and nonetheless, I love it. It is one of the uniquely awesome traditions in college basketball, and I hope it survives for a long, long time. (It also has the added benefit of providing the viewer with something to look out for during blowout games -- though CTT's team seems to have a penchant for keeping it too-close-for-comfort these days, so there haven't been as many home blowouts as in some years past...)

Also, if other schools don't like it, they could aways come up with their own. If other teams' fans lack the energy, effort, or creativity to keep it going game after game after game, then so be it. More power to the Sun Devils faithful for keeping the tradition alive and amusing.
