Calhoun coming back

Jim is at north haven tonight watching Waterford v Prince Tech with Scott. He is not there recruiting for UConn i'll tell you that much

Scott? Scott Burrell coach in waiting? Calhoun is already training him.

Eh, Dont know how credible Barstool Nate is. Even if that did happen he would coach for a couple of years and then what? The same situation that just happened with Ollie?

You think that we would fire Jim Calhoun for cause?

Are some people really against the idea of the greatest college basketball coach of all time coming home?

Yes. The mind may be willing, but I would not bet on the body being able, especially with all the travel in the AAC. This would not give us the stability we need.

Lol no. Im sayin the dude is 75 years old, he wont coach for that much longer if he did come back. After that what would happen, the assistant coach would become HC like Ollie? I just dont want Kevin Ollie V2. (And no im not blaming JC for the past 6 years.)

You remember we won a championship in that time frame?

Please stop. Edsall is already doing a great job. recruiting. It takes time. Check out that QB recruit he reeled in, he will be a good one.
Not that it's a bad call with RE but he can't make a living only hiring old coaches. At some point he needs to make a move

I didn't say Edsall was doing a bad job--I think he's turning things around. My point is that if your creative capacity is so limited that the best you can do is bring back the old coach for both of our major programs when we're in a time of crisis, I don't trust your abilities. I think that's a pretty reasonable assertion.

Ofcourse I remember the early success, idk why i said his whole tenure. 3 years not in order

I, for one, would be elated. I get all the downsides, but if he commits to 3-4 year period (like Larry Brown whose same age), they will come. There are few Hall of Fame Coaches (let alone of JC’s caliber) that recruits would’nt jump on. JC can also point to all those first rounders and lottery picks he got to league. And, even in JC down years at end of his career, when coaches used his leaving and age against him, he still delivered ranked teams with results we would be all be drooling over today. The man is a legend, and if Larry Brown could take the slim pickings he walked into at SMU and deliver what he delivered, I am hopeful Calhoun can match or exceed with far better starting point. Plus, Uconn becomes relevant, prestige will return, and we will have no problem bringing in a top-notch coach later. I am stoked if this happens.

Ps. And you could bet Gampel and XL will be packed again. I myself would arrange at least three flights during the season all the way from California just to see that man coach in person again. Legend

If he’s in his upper seventies with a history of health issues that engendered negative recruiting before he retired the first time? Yes. Don’t be stupid. Aren’t you supposed to be someone who genuinely cares about the program’s long-term health?

If Jim Calhoun is coming back in any way, its absolutely not going to be as an assistant coach.
Of course not. It would be associate head coach.
