You beat me to the post. I heard that a little differently. He told his Dean Smith story but for the first time ever, Dean Smith says "decide in the fall". Up to now, when Calhoun tells this story, Smith says "Don't make a decision right after your last game. Win or lose wait for things to calm down and decide." In this interview that has become "wait until the fall". I think that Calhoun is setting the table for Ollie to succeed him. My guess is that Jim Calhoun, one of the greatest coaches ever who ever taught the game, will retire as the University of Connecticut's head coach at the start of the season, but stay on with the university in "some capacity". I've kind of had a hunch about this for a while, but now I'm pretty sure that it is going to happen. I'd be glad to be wrong.

I have kind of been thinking the same thing for a while now as well. I think when he leaves, it will be right before the season and will force us to at least name Ollie as temporary coach (at minimum). I don't know if it will be this year, next year, or the year after. But I have a sneaking suspicion that is how it will eventually go down.

That would make sense, that he'd announce at the start of the season, BUT, hopefully he's been upfront with recruits, or at the very least, had Ollie with a VERY prominent role so that the kids he's recruited don't feel abandoned should he decide to hang em up. i get there's no magic scenario to make it perfect, but i'm sure he'll do it in the best way for the team and program...

I remember at least one kid saying I want to play for Coach Calhoun, or Coach Ollie. That makes me believe that they have set table with the kids. The 'stay on in some capacity' is other language that could be used to comfort the kids.

Feels no need to make "big announcement" like others say he should

The only reason "others" say he should make an announcement is because JC himself has made it an issue.

I think that he may do that if the ban is overturned. If it's upheld, I think he's going to want to coach through the ban.

I don't know, I think that it is more likely if the ban is in place as it Kevin a year to get his feet wet with little preasure.
