The New England Arthritis Foundation honored Calhoun last night at the Marriott in Hartford.Good time. Silent auction, dinner drinks etc.

Calhoun spoke and afterwords he and Joe D had a sit down format for q&a(Michael Kay style).
Relaxed setting. Calhoun is awesome in these settings. I think he is very relaxed and candid.

Some of the things the yard would be interested to hear and that surprised me.

1) He has (or will be) signing on with ESPN to do work during the ball season
2)He is actively involved in Uconns attemps to improve their conference situation
Believe he said he has met with people from other conference(insert b10) on behalf of Uconn

He went as far as to discuss cable boxes and how much money per.
I did not hear exactly what he said but it was along the lines of "think blank millions of households x.50 per home.
Mentioned Delaney being at MSG seeing what impact Uconn can have.

I like hearing that Calhouns is involved. He is a tenacious sob

He'll be great on BSPN as he won't hold back and will put clowns in their place.

Other than me ... I can't think of anyone who would fight harder for UConn to be upgraded in CR to B1G; I'm thrilled he is playing an active role. In Athletics, you need to have that grit and toughness. On a regional basis, UConn is irreplaceable. No U takes our place in New England and penetrating the NYC market in the sports that we can. Rutgers can't do this ... without us.

HFD might fight harder. But nobody would understand what he is saying.

Sometimes you need gritty, sometimes finesse. Maybe JC & WM can do a good cop--bad cop thing.

Can someone else who was there please confirm/clarify his exact comments here. This is very important. We got much more than .50 cents a sub w the SNY deal so this is potentially implying our incremental impact in NYC.

We still don't know how much the network is going to get in the ny metro, just that they have come to an agreement. Maybe Calhoun is implying that they would get an additional .50 in NY with our addition, which would be huge. This would be in addition to the higher number they would get in CT. That would be the only thing that would make sense to me about that statement.

Based on is comments last night it is clear Uconn is pushing hard for the Big 10.
His mention of Delaney and and the idea of playing the likes of Indiana, Michigan, Mich St etc vs our current conference mates at one point.

I think Dom Amore was there- maybe he heard him better(does he have twitter?)
This is what I thought I heard him say" .... If you have 2.4 million(not sure if he said Cable boxes or homes- and then he corrected what he meant and changed it to 1.4 million - or was it the other way around?) and you multiple that by .50 per home(or cable box) ..... He was speaking loosely on the matter with not much detail so don't go nuts trying to be exact with this.

I was in the back of the room and he was on a microphone and he speaks like , we'll you know how he speaks.

The over riding message was support the team, go to the games, watch on tv etc so we are attractive for a better situation.
The question he was responding to was about CR and what effects it will have on Uconn. In responding to that question he never mentioned the ACC. He mentioned Delaney and the impression he walked away with after MSG. He mentioned the impact of playing Michagan St , Indiana etc would have.
My impression is HE is very active in discussions ( not to mean anything is imminent) with regard to CR.

While that may sound convoluted to the average observer, this is about as clear as JC has ever been. He must really be focused on the CR thing.

Good to see his message hasn't changed in the past 5 or 6 months. I was at an event where he headlined, and he did Q&A after and I asked him what conference he thinks UConn will be in in 10 years.

His response was the B1G.

I also asked him who he would take Kemba and Shabazz and he was like, well Kemba won a championship. I wish I could ask him again!

And just as you said pinchy, he didn't once mention the ACC in his 10-15 minutes of taking questions. It's clear what Calhoun and UConn want, and it's not the ACC (of course they'd take an invite if it turned out to be the only one available)

Now that Syracuse has a vote....I just don't see the ACC inviting us. It looks like the B1G is our most likely landing spot. Since the fruit has joined the ACC I can't think of a school I hate more.
