Caitlin Clarke today

I'm not sure how long they've been giving out that award. There's more than one organization that picks a winner, I remember Destiny Slocum and Sabrina Ionescu were both named National FOY the same season.
Ok - I believe you. I've just never heard of it before and have never really recognized it.

Who is giving the award out? ESPN will do an article for sure but... anywhere else?

I'm not sure. AP or USA Today probably?
Can you name any of the previous winners? I can't. (you named a few in your post but again according to whom?)
Why does every Caitlin Clark discussion come back to Paige? I get that we are on UCONN message board but even still it's pretty stupid to do it over and over again.

Like I said, Slocum and Ionescu split the awards one year. I cant think of other winners.

Any time a non UConn player does something noteworthy, their accomplishments have to be questioned by some on this board. Plum's scoring, Ionescu's triple doubles, etc.

True I agree with that as well. It's dumb to try to tear down what UCONN players do instead of celebrate it. I get why the posters on this board would be defensive. I'm also hoping they realize the same thing when they talk about Caitlin Clark.

Yep

I couldn't agree with you more.

Speaking of Paige assists numbers. I mentioned in a couple of places yesterday that that Butler performance, UCONN assists single game record and UCONN Freshman Assists record may have sealed the 2021 Lieberman award for Paige.
I totally agree. How could it possibly be anyone else?

Or, if you’d prefer ... Dana Evans, probably Paige’s top competition for the NPOY awards, is on ESPN at the same time against Notre Dame.

Lotta big games today.
I watched both Clark and Evans today and just for good measure I rewatched yesterday's game against Butler. I won't bother posting a comparison of the two with Paige because, you know what, there isn't any. Oops, I guess I just did.

lol perfectly sums up this board.

Butler is 2-17 on the year.

The Butler game shouldn’t be important, regardless of her stat line, since they are near the bottom of the conference. Realistically Paige’s resume was closed after SC (or actually after Seton Hall two days later when they needed to win on tired legs), since it’s been a wave of bad opponents. Although Marquette tomorrow (in second in the BE) is a game Paige could hurt herself a little with a bad night.

Watched Evans while surfing between that and SC-A&M and she played really well, especially early. Made shots and made great reads on passes. Bounce back game for her after the rough one at FSU. The FSU game could hurt her resume, but she’s been pretty steady all year.

I‘ve actually moved Clark way up my (totally meaningless) AA chart recently. Might even have her on my first team after the Michigan win. Her efficiency has improved to the point its excellent now (TOs still an issue) and they’ve been winning more. Would be pretty remarkable if we have two freshman first team AAs this year after there were two in the entire history of the sport before this (I think - Maya Moore was the second and I don’t think anybody has done it since).

I'm not sure that "National Freshman of the Year" is actually an award that anyone cares about and I've never heard of anyone getting that award. Obviously this particular message board is extremely defensive when it comes to Paige Bueckers so it's a sensitive subject if you suggest anyone other than Paige should win it. She did score 20 points against Butler who is 2-16 on the year.

Frankly I don’t think Paige cares one way or the other. She is a pass first guard, team player and can score 30 if she needs to.

Nawww. You have this board mixed up with some other board.

And??? You said that to say what? How many did she score against Arkansas? However, saying someone else should win FOY is a sensitive subject on the BY. It's the nature of this board.

as if the Butler record is the reason Paige played like an AA.

OY - Don't see how to compare them, 2 very different teams.

I do think Paige has a chance at AA, I don't think Clark does. Clark is a wonderful player and one of the best freshmen in the country. The same is true of Paige. For that matter, Diamond Johnson from Rutgers is no slouch either (thinking of the B1G here, not national).

That I would vote for Paige, that many UConn fans would vote for Paige, that there are certainly fans who would vote for Clark - doesn't affect a darned thing. It is up to the voters.

Dana with a huge game verse ND. Sometimes her jumper looks crappy but she always gets it done. At her size to do what she does is phenomenal. What a player.
