2026 Recruiting: Caden Pierce (Transfer) potential interest

Excellent example of what Hurley calls "sniping".

The six-foot-seven, 220-pound Pierce played most of his minutes last season as Princeton's PF and some as their Princeton offense "center", which is basically a high-post pivot player surrounded by a four-out system. Pierce actually had his best season in 2023-24 when he was solely in that center role.

Pierce isn't nearly as good of a three-point shooter as Karaban (32.7 career 3P%), but he's a better passer and rebounder. According to EvanMiya.com, he also finished last season as Princeton's best defensive player, according to his metrics.

He’d have to be a PF here, wonder how he fits?

One idea, Hurley loves a bigger player who can pass well and be a secondary distributor, whether it was Castle, McNeeley or Andre.

Pierce could be that guy, albeit as a 4, which opens up the types of players UConn can bring in at the 3 where they don't have to be good passers/distributors.

Sure but it would be nice to bring in some elite athletes again.

Am I the only one who views the idea that one game into the season a school is publicly recruiting for next seasone someone who is currently enrolled in another school?

I'm not blaming our school/staff as it is now part of the equation (at least in this case), but that it is now part of the equation feels extremely wrong.

He's not playing at Princeton and his eligibility is up at Princeton so I don't see why it would feel extremely wrong.

Read this article, which was posted above. That will explain why.

Recruiting calendars being what they are - we do next years frosh before this season starts, so why not entertain a red shirt senior now that the season starts.

Caden Pierce is severely overrated. 11 ppg last year in the Ivy League 😂. If he was anything that arrogant Ivy folks truly think he is, Princeton would’ve done a better job giving Yale a run for their money the last two years. Let him go elsewhere, UConn doesn’t need him. He ain’t Bill Bradley for call crying out loud, and isn’t even close to Xaivian Lee, either.

Not to mention sitting a year out doesn’t do him any favors to then go right into high, high-Major basketball if he comes to Storrs.

Once a kid is in transfer portal, doesn’t that mean he’s a free agent? And, he’s not currently playing or on a roster. Is there a specific window to recruit?

I get what you’re saying. If we were publicly going after Bryce Hopkins for example, I would be in agreement (or name any other active college player).

Also, is UConn making this public, or someone with knowledge of the topic? Or someone that just wants some clicks.
