Running back problems in Provo.

Provo • How bad is the running back situation at BYU?

The second-leading rusher, quarterback Taysom Hill, with 72 yards, hasn't played since the third quarter of the season opener. The third-leading rusher, returned missionary freshman Francis Bernard (30 yards) didn't play in the first three games due to a broken finger.

And now it appears that the team's leading rusher, Adam Hine, won't play on Friday against Connecticut (8:15 p.m., ESPN2) at LaVell Edwards Stadium because he hasn't practiced this week after suffering an ankle injury early in the second half of last Saturday's 31-0 loss at Michigan. Hine has 312 rushing yards.

This could be a Wake Forest/VPI situation Friday.

I'd sign up for 0-0 right now. Muck up road games to the point that they are practically unviewable. Take any life out of their stadium and make their fans wish that they went to the chinese checkers game instead. We win in OT on a 42 yard FG. Their 42 yard FG attempt hits the upright.

LOL!

I just hope our team pays more attention to what they DON'T think UCONN football is capable of. Use that bulletin board material as inspiration. Expose whatever it is BYU's having problems with and pull out the W... Then talk about it later.

I just hope our team pays attention to their assignments and EXECUTE!
If they DO what the coaches tell them to DO, and continue to avoid turnovers, they have a shot at winning this game.

It's not pretty. Lost leading rusher Jamaal Williams before the season, lost Hill in the first game, and Hine who was very good against Boise State and UCLA will be out. Algie Brown who was good early last year will also likely be out due to a knee injury against Boise State. Basically down to 2 freshmen, one of whom was slotted to play DB and has no college game experience at RB. There's also a former walk-on, Carter, but he has not been good. Probably going to be a lot of passing.

I never wish injury on anyone or any team, but this is actually a pretty great situation to steal a 'W' when we need one to get back on track, on the road, and against a nationally-accliamed opponet. Even though this BYU team isn't the same squad we've seen last few years they're still a disciplined, fast, athletic bunch who could still find a way to put up points. Our defense shows up on Friday night I think we win this one.

Unfortunately we've been pretty focused on defending the run lately and now have to shift back to a passing defense. Fortunately we have guys who can take advantage of passing situations and maybe turn them over. Again we need to do a better job of blocking and moving the chains and turn opportunities into points.
