Fair enough (although NCAA stats out the PPG at 76, which would make it 21 points). But in fairness, the Huskies were held to 20 points below THEIR season average of 86 ppg.
The numbers I used in my post were not mine. If you're more comfortable using the NCAA stats you reference, I'm OK with that. I'm also OK with recognizing that USC held UConn to 20 points below their average as well. USC gave UConn the kind of competitive game they needed. This game was a late season "barometer" of its current status. A status report that competition in the AAC cannot provide. The most important things UConn took away from this game was: 1. Do we have any weaknesses that need to be addressed and corrected? 2. It provided the team with a renewed confidence they'll need going into the NCAA tournament. South Carolina is not a "scrub team". They are a very good top 6 team. They gave the Huskies the game they were expecting and looking for. UConn proved it could over come an injury to a starter, and an off night by their leading scorer, and still found a way to win. If you want to focus on UConn being held to 20 points under their normal average, you're not seeing the big picture here. Both teams still have a lot of work to do before the NCAA tournament begins.
