Maybe it's because 89-90 is burned into my mind more than any of those other late 80s early 90's seasons but I will always think of Chris Smith as a SG even though he is listed as a PG on this exercise. Using most of your logic in the brackets, I think I would actually go Napier at point, slide Smith to SG and Allen to SF. This looks even better to me:

Same, but give me El-Amin for the extra buck over Smith.

Cool but I’m gonna say it. Chris Smith was a better college PG than Bazz, and El Amin and right there with Kemba and Newton. He just didn’t have the teams they had. I watched his entire UConn run. He was that good. He’s the foundation of our Blood eventually turning Blue
I don’t think we missed at the PG position since the 90s with Calhoun.
In fairness to Dyson, he’s probably remembered a lot differently if he doesn’t hurt his knee in 2009 and we win a championship.
This, this is the lineup. The biggest weakness is Karajan at 4 but with Donovan in the paint, that team is spread with shooters and slashers.
He was nice in that role his junior season but Price, Thabeet, and Adrien were all better than him and Price's career was certainly derailed a lot more than Dyson's. Sticks career was also impacted by being ineligible first semester. We can do what ifs all day with former players. What if Marcus Williams wasn't involved in the laptop thing as well as what if he didn't miss the first semester of his freshman season? What if Nadav didn't return to Israel? What if Rashad didn't get staph infection? Dyson is simply out of place on that list, IMO.
I don’t think any of those situations had the impact of costing the team a championship and the player himself a first round draft pick at the same time. Then coming back for the very turbulent 2010 season.

Cam was the best offensive player on the most dominant team in the 64 team era and had the best offensive rating in the country. Dyson was nothing like him, Cam was a much better player.
Sorry for admiring the coach who built our program and did a lot of amazing things?
They were definitely nothing alike. They were polar opposites but not in positive or negative ways.

Here and now, vs the chronic 20 year look back, often as a comparison. The rules were significantly different.
Yes, Cam was easily the better player. His mental game was light years ahead of Dyson. Dyson was just a good athlete. He was reckless. There is not a neural observer who would say Jerome Dyson was anywhere near as good as Spencer. Cam is already getting solid minutes at the NBA level, something Dyson never sniffed.
