No violent hitting from the D since the second half of the Sorryexcuse game.
To be fair, there were a few (BS) targeting calls (overturned on review) in the Delaware game from pretty solid hits by our defense. I'm thinking we've been a little gunshy since that game.

They are always going to call targeting and then review. It's usually too fast for the human eye so if they think there is a chance they are going to throw a flag. If they don't they can face disciplinary action. The good news is the reviews usually weed out the bad calls.

I hear you but I don't think that is what is going on. Targeting calls are down this year across CFB so far. I think refs continue to throw a flag to get the benefit of the video review... But, that said, what I'm talking about is wrapping runners up, driving the tackle through the whistle, gang tackling with authority, hitting with violence to create fumbles, etc. Our defense is just non-violent. Look at other games and it just jumps off the screen how much less of a hitting team we currently have versus almost any other. Mora has mentioned several times that he wants more defensive violence. If that happens, I'll venture that the second half of the season will be more fulfilling than the first half.

So when we beat Rice 10-3 at home or got a lucky win at home vs Tenple, I never saw this much complaining after the win. Are the expectations for this team that much higher?

Yeah we know. But even when the freshman QB came in they had trouble with him.
I honestly think that Buffalo would have won that game if that freshman QB had played more. UConn’s defense couldn’t handle him.

Yes, they were. Unrealistically so given the unknowns of portal football, but the fan base was pretty high on the team compared to past years.

I think people looked at the performance against UNC in the bowl….that fact that both coordinators stayed…and that the offensive skill players were the same. What everyone underestimated was the impact of the turnover on defense.

Do not mistake no turnovers for mistake free football. We've had plenty of over throws, dropped passes dropped interceptions, missed assignments. There were two snaps over the punters head that we recovered but if the opponents recovered the result would have been the same. One game we had a Rosa fumble and Fagnano interception nullified by penaties. We have been very sloppy.

I think its going to be the same next year. We are going to have big turnover on D.
