Denzel Valentine got AP player of the year over Buddy. Valentine really filled up the stat sheet but there isn't a single coach in the country outside of maybe Izzo who would take Denzel over Buddy. Reminds me of Kemba getting dissed in 2011 and Buddy is pulling a Kemba in the tournament.

Saw that today. Absurd. Not to take anything away from Denzel, but Buddy was dropping 30 with regularity and he stepped up against big opponents.

I'd like to see the stats on how many POY's teams won a championship.

Valentine is a very good player BUT in my eyes it was Buddy's to lose and he has done nothing negative to lose it
I don't get it
Did only Izzo vote????

love this as motivation for hield. also i read that voting took place before the ncaa's? maybe people were expecting a big msu run as per usual.

Since 1990, I think it's only happened 3 times: Laettner (1992), Battier (2001) and Anthony Davis (2012). Prior to that, last time it was in 1976 (Scott May, Indiana). So, not very often.

This goes beyond wrong. In my mind, Denzel's 3rd behind Buddy and Perry Ellis.

I would have gone with Buddy, but it's not a crazy pick. Hield and Valentine were very clearly the two best players in the country this year and there wasn't much separating them.

Except a tiny detail: one's team was bounced by 15-seed Middle Tennessee in the round of 32, the other's is in the Final Four

Kemba didn't win POY honors in 2011 so who cares...that honor when to none other than Jimmer lol

Great call, except these votes are done before the tournament. Unless you're suggesting they should have predicted that?

I would have voted for Denzel. Buddy would have been a deserving winner, as well, but it's obvious that people in this thread aren't familiar with how good of a season Valentine had.

If UConn got to the FF I would be seriously fearing Buddy Hield right about now.

Denzel averaged 19/8/7 and shot 44% from 3 on one of the best teams in the country. He was absolutely my POY pick at the end of the season (which is when they vote) but I'd lean Buddy now given his tournament performance.

At this exact moment it helps Buddy to have a little 'I'll show them' motivation as our own Kemba & Emeka did in the past. So whereas the real prize is still out there its not a biggie.
