It's pay back time. Nothing to lose tomorrow. Lay it all out and see what happens.

Get some rest and let's hope cuse is rusty to start (and finish mind you). Byes can be the kiss of death in this league (note: UConn 2011).

The Cuse site is hilarious right now, they are already complaining about refereeing in tomorrow's game, 20.5 hours before the game has started... truly amazing...

The reffing, if anything, was against UConn.

WV pushed on rebounds underneath the whole game, the foul on Napier where he charged the ref was totally bogus as was the flop/charge called on him after he had laid the ball off. Those were critical calls by the ref, and they gave WV a good chance to win the game, but they couldn't do it.

Syracuse has only played one game(Lou) since we played them, hopefully they are rusty.

Dr. Bombay really is one of the few sane Cuse fans - I see you challenging some of your moronic brethren from time to time (moronic at least on the message boards - most Cuse fans I know are good people)

I just can't believe they have the audacity to complain about the refs in advance, or complain about any reffing in general when they have had some of the most fortunate calls I have seen all year.

There were about 15 Uconn related threads on their front page. Wild.

for those posters in that "who do you least want to see the title thread" who wondered why people were picking Syracuse, take a look at their board right now. among other things, the game in Storrs a couple of weeks back was "UConn's National Championship" game. The way those guys are talking you would think that Syr is a program that has advanced past a Sweet 16 the past 8 years.

I mean, in a way they're right. When a team like ours, which has obviously never experienced a national championship game, faces a quality opponent like Syracuse, they do tend to over-rate the significance of it.

I didn't see it that way. I thought we got a number of breaks from the zebras, for the first time all year. Including:

1. Kilicla's (however you spell it) 4th foul. The three point shooter had come down before contact. At that point, it became just a hard box out and didn't have to be called.

2. Drummond made 1 of 2 three throws in the 2d half on a play where the first contact was clearly an offensive foul push off.

3. Late in the OT, on the drive to the hoop I thought AO got away with a block that was no called.

I'll take them. but we're going to need to play much, much better for an entire 40 minutes if we're going to play with the Cuse tomorrow.

I was there and I agree that today Uconn got the better of the refereeing... All three of these points are valid. The only caveat is that WV did get away with lots on the offensive glass in the first half. When that tightened up late in the 2nd, their offensive took a step back. Don't want to take away from WV's offensive rebounding display though... People always say that rebounding is effort, and it is that. But it's also skill for certain guys like Jones, who know exactly what they're doing with positioning, tipping the ball, letting the defensive rebounder overreact and hit it out of bounds, etc etc. Dude is a menace on the glass, and they team rebound too. So few minutes from Kilicili hurt them today (not a single hook), they could make a run to the Sweet 16, matchup depending obv

The Kilicla foul was very close - he went airborne trying to contest and he did land in the space on the floor that Napier is entitled to (before he became a boxer-outer), but I would have been ok with a no-call there. He was just able to hold back his momentum enough where he didn't blatantly crash into Napier. I'd have been mad if that one was called against us.

Drummond should have gotten one, but it was less egregious than the three second hook with the off-arm that Jones gave Drummond in overtime before missing a hook shot.

Thought AO did a good job of keeping his arms vertical and Bryant threw himself in there hoping for a foul. AO was sliding slightly to cut off the lane - wouldn't have been an egregious foul call if they called it, but it's one of those times I'm content not to see the offensive player rewarded for initiating contact. If we didn't get that same call, I would have been ok. Either way, some credit should go to AO for playing pretty solid fundamental defense by not hacking down with his arms (or following through when the ball came loose), and making it a tougher decision for the officials.

Fouls 2-4 on Napier were all shaky (the inbounds pass to midcourt when he just pretty much fell down after the ball was stolen, the play where Bryant dipped his shoulder into him and that dreadful charge), and the fifth could have been let go since there was no real advantage gained and there was a lot of contact against dribblers the whole game (bad gamble by Bazz though with 4).

I agree on Kilicli, but that's often called.

As for Drummond I agree on that play but it was simply the reverse of Napier getting pushed off and getting the foul.

I disagree on AO in the OT. He got all ball, and though he did body Bryant, Bryant initiated it.

I also failed to mention AO coming down with a rebound late in the game that was knocked out of his hands and somehow given to WV.

The worst call in the whole game was the charge on Napier after he dumped the ball to AO. That was a terrible call.

But I thought the refs let too much go inside for that call to be made.

Gotta disagree. The reffing was very inconsistent, and so bad, but we got several big calls, including the one that fouled out the bearded guy, the one where the Truck kid did not get a call on a drive with under a minute, and Shabazz drawing the 4 point play opportunity on the 3 point play.
Sure, some went against us, like the charge on Bazz, but, in the whole, I thought the reffing was in our favor.

But I bet if you took a poll of 1,000 UWV and UConn fans you'd get 90% thinking the way you do - the refs were against us.

I like our chances. We can play with them.

How many minutes were left in Game 1 when Cuse left us in their wake? Because outside of those minutes UConn has been head to head with those bitches.

UConn wins tomorrow.
