Brianna Banks is a Freshman........And ALL Freshmen make mistakes. Give her some time to get experience and develop more and she will be fine.

GA is known for his impatience, especially with freshmen , so his yanking of BB shouldn't be a surprise to anybody. We have seen him do this many times over the years. ( His handling of Tina Charles in her freshman year is darn near legendary).

I loved the play where the ball came to her sort of by accident. She looked startled for a microsecond, then took off for the other end like a scalded cat. A defender had about 5 or 6 ft. start on her, and Banks passed her like a resolution to adjourn for drinks. She does undoubtedly need to work on court discipline, but the young lady is FAST!!!

I think what we are seeing from BBanks this year is a bigger learning curve for her when it comes to a truly organized and structured approach to basketball. UCONN still allows for a fair degree of freedom on offense, but only after you have first understood the rudiments of the flow that Geno wants the team to execute. Sort of like the difference between 1-on-1 and 'improvization on a Theme'.

This also fits into what Phil said earlier in the thread, where he talks about Brianna not yet being fully comfortable with the difference between "always do THIS in this situation" and "we prefer to do THAT, but you have other options". BBanks has such ridiculous physical skills that it's easy to see how this could be the case for her coming in. She probably did not have to absorb nearly as much organization as she needs to do at UCONN; she could just create on her own. She has a truly amazing handle to go along with blazing speed---we haven't seen 1% of what she can do. I am hoping for a big jump next year, but it might be longer.

Well said, and I think some of us (me included) let our hopes, upon seeing her physical skills, turn into expectations that included development milestones that were sooner than feasible for her. So some of us fans need to learn patience while we support her and look forward to her development into a skilled UCONN player. It is fun to think about BB and MJ doubling up on someone trying to bring the ball up court...

John Fryer took exception to my rather absolute view of BB's corpus of work.
He went back to replay the game on ESPN3 and so did I.
I think his position is correct and mine faulty.
I may have been influenced by the impatient crowd at the arena, hadn't thought so at the time.
Mea culpa.
