Moriah and Brianna Banks get more playing time. Probably for the best to allow her to heal properly.

Hopefully it doesn't end up as a season long injury that costs her the season.

Yikes! Thankfully we don't have a shortage of guards. This is Moriah's and Brianna's time to shine...

It's good that Banks, MoJeff and to a lesser extent Caroline will get more reps. Caroline will lead and help show the other two what they need to do to step up.

While this is obviously a concern, the fact that the injury occurred only this summer and was not that serious at the time makes me feel like it will be OK with extended rest.

Bria is going to have some rust when she gets back but by the time we really need her, she will be OK.

From reading the blogs, it's reported that the Bria's sprain is a medial sprain (as opposed to a lateral ankle sprain). Medial sprains are unusual but can take twice as long to heal and for severe sprains can take several weeks. Get well Bria.

Bummer for Bria but great opportunity for Moriah and Brianna to be able to step up... However I do have to say it's a bit of a bummer that the original "injury" was noted well over a month ago (after the 3 on 3 in Greece). It would have been nice to have diagnosed it correctly then and had her sitting out the past month and a half.

This is not surprising and has been of concern since she went out at the beginning of practice! Although the MRI indicated no structural damage, the inf that this was originally
injured months, the degree of swelling, the continual issues since then, are worrisome!

Obviousely, just giving this the time to hopefully completely heal is the only prudent thing to do. Will further MRIs,etal be prudent I believe so.

So who replaces her? What does the starting lineup become now?

How about CD,Kelly,KML,Stew,and Steph?

Hasn't she been? She hasn't practiced in some time.

You sit, you test it, you sit some more, you test it again. Where are you seeing a misdiagnosis?

Right. It was always diagnosed as a sprain but today is the first I've read it to be a medial ankle sprain. This isn't news to the staff but it's news to me. As I mentioned earlier, medial ankle sprains take longer to heal. I'm sure the "out indefinitely" part is simply to avoid having to revise timeline yet again. She'll be ready when she's ready whenever that may be.

Did she re-injure it? If not, and NOW she's being told she needs to stay off of it for several weeks, then how would you explain it? Maybe they didn't realize the severity of the injury? But if it was figured out shortly after Greece, and she'd been off her feet for even a month after that, she'd be 100% healed now.

Instead, she was off it, back on it, off it, back on it, and now it's been diagnosed as a medial sprain which can take up to 3 weeks I read above. Not saying it's anyone's fault, just that it's unfortunate it was never figured out right at the get-go...

I'm don't agree that this wasn't figured out from the "get-go." It has now been reported as a medial sprain; I'm sure the staff has known from it's initial tests what kind of sprain it is. I also don't understand your claim that she's been on it, off it, etc. She's rested it, received treatment and tested it. That's always the course. Not sure where you're getting 3 weeks. The timeline for recovery depends (as always) on severity. The only thing we do know is that medial sprains take longer to heal and that's proving to be true with Bria's sprain. How long remains to be seen.

I was just going by what doggydaddy said. Sit on it, test it (I assume by not sitting on it), sit on it, test it, etc... Plus wasn't she playing in the pick up games? I don't recall but I don't think she's been completely off her ankle since Greece. But who knows? I could be way off...!

She wasn't off it. She thought it was just another sprain that she could "play through." She returned to campus, started playing pick-up and told the staff only after the ankle started feeling worse. Sometimes stuff just happens.

Seems like it has already become a nagging injury.
I asked in the earlier thread but I seem to remember that she had a similar sprain last year. I am very concerned that this is now becoming a chronic injury. My brother can sprain an ankle looking at the ground wrong. It started in high school.

Not only does this mean more minutes for Banks and Mo, but it also means more minutes for Morgan and Breanna. It probably means one of the freshmen, probably Breanna, starts from Day 1. As long as Bria is able to come back, I don't see that as a bad thing. I do think she'll be needed to win it all; Bria's clutch, an increasingly reliable ball handler, and the second best passer on the team after Kelly.
