I didn't realize he was there. Not a good comment about Woodson in the article. Indiana fans are not going to like it.

"In August, they were installing a basic offense," he recalled. "(Tuesday), they were playing up and down, you make a mistake, you're down at the other end. It's a great learning process, just to be able to run fast-paced and play at a high level. Coach Hurley gets on you, and I feel like I needed a little bit of that. So, it's a great thing to be a part of it."

At the end of that article on Mullins, if you look below there is a real nice article about Liam McNeeley from Mike Anthony. Hurley quoted saying " this guy is going to be so good this year". He sure is off to a good start. @HooperScooper , it could probably use it's own thread.

Mullins and family look like such great grounded and humble people. He was definitely my must get recruit after the charade with Meleek and I would much rather have Mullins with the possibility he stays more than a year. We may end up with multiple McDonald’s kids this year.

Wasn't sure what you meant till I read...

"I had a real good relationship with their assistant coach, but the bond I had with Coach Hurley is much different than what I had with Coach (Mike) Woodson (Indiana)."

That's a big "WOW"...

I don't get why that's a big WOW. Hurley and Woodson are different people There are probably 300+ other D1 hoops coaches where Hurley could have a better bond with a top recruit. We all know UConn hoops is a family environment.

Unless you're implying something else.

When he first committed, there was an article where he said that during his entire recruitment, Woodson only came to one of his games. For a big time recruit in your backyard that's criminal. He also said he had no communication with Woodson and it was the assistant coaches who he talked to all the time. If I was Indiana, I would have fired Woodson the day that article came out.

I wonder if the assistant was Kenya Hunter because I often think that our "sliding doors" moment was when Hunter unexpectedly left us which opened the door to rehire Luke Murray.

His comments on Woodson were more compliments of Hurley. But when you're comparing 2 choices and you're complimenting one side that can be taken as a slight to the other.

“Coach Hurley was the head coach I heard from the most,” Mullins said. “And honestly, that’s who you are playing for so hearing from him was definitely a big part of it.”

During his recruitment, I had posted a couple of times that I was given some info on the recruitment from someone I trust 100%. I mentioned that the family loved Hurley and UConn and it was going to be a tough decision for Braylon. The last update I got from him was that all the chatter the last couple of weeks before the announcement was all UConn.
Well, he happened to send me the below text yesterday morning and it reaffirms that Hurley was taking the lead and building the trust and relationship with the family.

Scott gave more detail on why I was like "WOW"... and @Mister P expanded further on it. My main point was for the HC at Indiana to be so... lackadaisical... in his recruitment of a 5* in state kid... Can you imagine if Hurley behaved that way when recruiting Clingan? Yikes!

This team will be special. We have more prolific shooters and more prolific athletes than last year. And next year's team will be even better!!!! I just want to savor the moment!

That’s pretty incredible to hear that Woodson did not show more interest in a prospect as highly rated as Mullins. May Braylon be as good as Ray Allen (Pitino effectively ignored him on his recruiting visit to Kentucky) and Rashad Anderson (Florida said he could come as a walk-on only until they offered him very late when their preferred options chose to go elsewhere) were for the Huskies!

The word on Woodson from the IU fans has always been that he just lacks the drive required for college recruiting. The fact that Hurley was apparently at Mullins’ school far more than Woodson is just a concrete example.
