There's no defined criteria for the at large teams and that's why teams that make the tournament have different bodies of work/resumes. You don't believe that teams that aren't Virginia Tech that don't have Q1 wins shouldn't be in NCAAT. I should say coached by Megan Duffy because you didn't ride for VT this hard when Kenny Brooks was the coach.

ACC as a whole is mediocre conference in relative to what used to bring the past Since you seem to be stalking my posts on different boards, you should know that I'm on record as saying that before the season even began.
Shocker! Kenny Brooks is unlikable and, outside of Liz Kitley and Cayla King, so was that VT team.

BTW, UNC isn't the only ACC team still waiting for a Q1 win, so you guys have company courtesy of UVA.

So a couple of things UK related - why did Creme drop them from his projections - like completely? And do committees still take injuries into accout? UK lost a couple of bad ones with Key out.

Top 25 teams in NET rankings as of today without any Q1 wins:
North Carolina, Nebraska, and Oklahoma State

There have been a bunch of decisions by the committee where decisions wrt injuries resulted in both higher and lower seeds for teams. IMO, and I'll admit I'm a homer, here and now, however 1998 still burns.

Before the 1998 NCAA tourney, Nykesha tore her achilles in February, and then UConn was given a #2 seed, however Stanford (um) delayed reporting injuries after Nygaard (ACL in regular season final, and Folkl (ACL, along with meniscus damage and a bone bruise, during a practice session just before the tournament). These two players contributed approximately 34 PPG, however the committee decided to give them a #1 seed. One of the only times I've ever seen Geno publicly irate.

#16 Harvard beats #1 Stanford, 71-67, and although HU was humbled in the 2nd round by Arkansas 82-64, Allison Feaster went on to have a good pro career, married Danny Strong, had Sarah, and the rest is history. 😁

I don't see USC making it into the Main tournament this year. 8 games left, 4 winnable games and 4 maybe games. I am sure they will get invites to the tournaments.
You may not see it but I do. They are knocking on the door of hosting, which I don't think will happen but it's more likely than that they miss the tournament. Smith's absense probably cost them a few wins, and I won't be surprised if that hurts their seeding a bit, but not enough to keep them out of the tournament.

.-.
So here's a prediction before tomorrow's new thread is posted. Tenn & MD drop out of top 16.

I agree with USC making the tournament, but I'm not clear on how you see them having an outside shot at hosting when they're not in the top 25 at the moment.

To make top 16 Trojans would have to win out and make semis of conf tourney.

Most likely not happening.

Still I do think they make ncaa, and are a threat to make sweet 16 by winning an upset on someone else's home court.

Why? Freshmen like Davidson (and Chavez) who get a ton of playing time and responsibility improve in huge chunks and their teams are better by tournament time.

They have plenty of tough games left, and of course Big10 tournament.

We're in agreement, however the post I replied to believes USC has a chance to host. That's what I'm questioning.

That's what I answered too. See start of my answer, they could still host with an unlikely winning streak.

But...they still have OSU and UCLA.

The have a pretty clean ending schedule. Probably a 5-6 seed

I agree with USC making the tournament, but I'm not clear on how you see them having an outside shot at hosting when they're not in the top 25 at the moment.
When you say that UFC is unranked, I presume you're referring to the AP ranking. The more I watch the AP ranking the last impressed I am, but my views are obviously not relevant. The more relevant point is the AP ranking officially is not even a consideration for the selection committee. They have a huge pile of data, the AP rankings aren't among them.

They do have NET rankings where USC is 20. That's not 16 but it's on the outside looking in and things need to go right which they probably won't, but 45 is the approximate cut off for being invited to the tournament and it's my observation the 20 is a lot closer to 16 that it is to 46.

Quad 1 wins appear to be important. Here is the number of quad one wins by the current bracketology 4 seeds:

Duke 3
Ole Miss 2
Oklahoma 2
Tennessee 4

USC has 3. Not as many as Tennessee, exactly the same as Duke and more than Mississippi or Oklahoma. I'm not arguing that USC deserves a four seed over any of those four, I'm simply arguing it's not is ludicrous as some people seem to think.

This was the clarification I was looking for. You're thinking of NET, where others like me were taking a different vantage point. Context is always helpful. Thanks.
