Bracket first impressions

Tour mistake is in assuming that there was no agenda among any of the committee and that no one approached the chairman before the process started to lobby for team/conference/region. I've sat a few labor contract negotiating teams and while most members were there for the right reasons, there were always deals made by coalitions and when push came to shove, if there was no one present advocating for a particular issue it ended up in the wastebasket. I suspect that some worthy teams got tossed into the waste basket
Who knows, but no one is involved in discussions and seeding of their own teams. They have a very specific process supposed to avoid accusations of bias. The problem is, there is absolutely nothing they can do that will not upset someone.

Well I'm not the only board member feeling bad. I think @triaddukefan knew this was coming as soon as the brackets came out. In the other play in William & Mary beat High Point 69-63. At 16-18 The Tribe are suddenly one of the hottest teams in the country! You do not want to see them in your bracket!

For the last week, William and Mary has been the bane of my existence. Shattering all of my WBB hopes and dreams

Aggies, Camels, and now my beloved Panthers. I'm just glad they don't play Duke next :(

William & Mary could do the funniest thing ever. Well, the second funniest thing ever. ;)

12 folks on committee. All athletic directors, (or Asst ads). 6 from power 4, 1 be, 5 small conference.

Duke AD (Nibak King) is chair, so they were right there watching assignment of Duke/UNC.

The schools that just miss are not a mystery, the list is published daily this time of year. It's middle of the road P4 teams, and 1st and 2nd place teams from small conferences fighting for last spots.

Sure there are some odd moves, but process is really quite transparent.

I would like Michigan to win this game against Iowa state. They are the ones that can challenge Notre dame. Iowa state is too outmatched at the guard position.

Every time Kentucky looks like they are going to blow the game wide open, Liberty fights their way back into. Amoore is going nuts, 23 points and we aren't even to halftime yet. 5 made 3's I think.

edit--44-34 at the half

Michigan-Iowa St. is turning into a barn burner. Wolverines red hot now after some chilly shooting earlier.

Iowa St. was up at least 9 in Q3, but Michigan finished strong and won 80-74.

All this talk matters little.

Bottom line: Huskies will win this thing. I'm surprised they aren't a 1-seed.

Michigan won by 6. How exactly did their guard play outmatch Iowa State? I'd say it helped them eek out the win as they couldn't do anything to stop Crooks today.

Kentucky was up 70-55...then just froze. Down to 72-68. Strack and Key have both fouled out.

edit--74-73, 1 minute left; utter collapse in progress

Liberty has a player from Beavercreek, OH. That's where my brother and his family live.

Kentucky holds on 79-78. Amoore tied a school record for points in a Tourney game w/ 34.

In my original post, I am kind of combining a couple of different arguments. So, I understand why it was unclear.

Iowa state guards would be outmatched against Notre dame guards; that’s what I was hinting at. They would have turned the ball over 20+ times in that game. And they would be helpless trying to keep miles and Hidalgo in front of them.

From that vantage point, yes. That makes more sense. Thanks for clarifying.

The good and bad of Crooks was on display today. A very efficient 28 points on O because Michigan couldn’t match up with her, but the Cyclones zone D was bad because Crooks couldn’t guard anyone. Michigan got numerous wide open looks down the stretch. Entertaining game.

Fairfield is getting pummeled by Kansas St., but Fairleigh Dickinson and Grand Canyon are hanging tough in their games.

Way way way too much attention is put on the last 4 slots. They mean a lot to the coaches as job security but otherwise are irrelevant except for the fans of a few teams.
If the process was transparent there would be more than a 90 second interview of the chair at the end of an hour long selection show. There would be a press conference and deep penetrating questions would be asked. Instead ESPN spends 45 seconds praising the committee followed by one question about the actual seeding.
Seeding 350 team college basketball with little regard to stats other than wins/losses is bound to be less than optimum. Then they take that bracket and put them into a single-elimination tournament and declare the winner to be the best team in the country that season. The media loves it because every game is a do-or-die game and so they poo-poo any suggestion that a 16 team double elimination tournament would include all the possible winners in a much fairer format.
