Apologies if this has been posted, but has Boykin been cleared to play? When she is, do we expect her to have a significant impact?

Does anyone know if De'Janae was at the game today, on the bench, in uniform or street clothes???

Boykin hasn't had one "full speed" practice yet. If this continues a few more weeks I would think red-shirting has to start coming into consideration.

Give her another month before deciding, remember Courtney last season didn't redshirt even though she didn't really play til I think around January.

Sadly, I don't think she was able to redshirt. She played in that first game at UC-Davis. And then she had the misfortune of healing within the season.

Seriously, I wish she could have. She lost a year. She is very skilled and has a high BB IQ.

I think it's number of games played isn't it? If you play the first game but don't play anymore shouldn't you be able to get the redshirt?

Maybe someone in the know can clarify. But I think the games quota applies to injury situations. For a voluntary redshirt, a la Jessica Moore, I don't think you can play at all.

The issue with Courtney, as I understand it, was that her injury was not extensive enough time-wise to preclude her from coming back and playing again in the season.

You have that right, but of course with injuries only the player really knows if it is healed and she feels well enough to play, so .... there might be a little wiggle room involved.

Right. To qualify for medical hardship you have to have an injury that's (a) season-ending, (b) before playing in 30% of your team's games, and (c) before playing at all in the second half of the season.

Courtney played in the first game then lost six weeks to injury but recovered enough to resume play during the conference part of the season.

Would guess she had added motivation to come back if she could, because she had sat out her senior year of high school -- during which she was home schooled and played against AAU boys.

There may be some wiggle room, but remember that:

A. The team doctor has to certify she is unable to play for the season. Doctors may bend the truth a bit, but most don't like to sign their name to a fraudulent report.

B. UConn has to provide medical documentation such as MRI's to support the case for a medical hardship waiver.

Given that the issue was a stress fracture, which apparently can be evaluated via MRI's, it might have been hard for their doctor and for the medical evidence to support a case that she was unavailable for the entire season. As it was, it was healed in late December.

I spent 20 minutes with Moriah's dad at the game yest- and he said Mo said she was dealing with chronic nagging injury. He didn't dodge the qst, and didn't look like there was any more to the story. He also told me how close she, and I think Stewie and Mo possibly almost went to Tenn. Mo was recruited in Middle School by Tenn, and was convinced she would go there most or much of her High School career. It was interesting and enlightening.

And I suspect a doctor's judgment comes into play in some cases as well.

Mo said she was dealing with chronic nagging injury.
Inquiring minds want to know.
1) What part of her body?
2) What do you mean by cronic?
3) Are we talking potential surgery?
4) How long has she been dealing with it?
5)......
6)......

I have no idea. And he seamed to not even know. I still am perplexed on this one. The fact that academics were mentioned with her not traveling with the team still makes me nervous. Boy- looking at her yesterday-she looks like a really strong agile player-- what a b ball body. Someone that can go down low with anyone in the post

Sorry someone (probably Meyers) is going to slap me up side my head about reading comprehension again. You were talking to MoJet's Dad about Boykin. I thought you were talking about Mo's dad about Mo- thus my panic. I don't see how anything beside a red shirt year makes sense for Boykin at this point. I'm like Gus, not sure what to say about the academic aspects of her situation.

Coco - you and me both! I made the same leap with the same reading comprehension issue, and had quite a moment of panic!

A sore achilles that has not healed in two months is I think by definition 'chronic'. Doesn't make the injury worse, just describes the time frame.
